HELP----- Window fax scanner
I have used it for almost a year now and it just stopped. Any one out there know how I can up date the window fax/scanner drivers. I have reinstalled my printer/scanner that did not fix it. So I would like to up date the window fax/scanner drivers. TIA.

Have you tried power down/power up on the scanner?

It's hard to troubleshoot without the computer in front of me, so let me ask a couple of basic things.
I will assume you re-booted you computer a few times and it still does not work.
It could be as simple as your computer lost communication with your printer/scanner. Re-check all your connections. Unplug your printer/scanner then restart your computer. Then turn your computer off. Plug in your printer/scanner then restart your computer. As the computer re-boots, it should find your printer/scanner.
Did you install any new programs just before it quit working? If so, uninstall the last new program and see what happens. There could be a conflict preventing your software from working properly.
You could have spyware causing a conflict. Sometimes scanning with Spybot or Malwarebytes can remove the spyware and resolve the conflict.
You could use the "restore" function and restore your computer to a day that you last remember everything worked right.
If you want to update your drivers, you can go to the website of the manufacturer of your printer/scanner and get the latest drivers there. I don't think that is your problem though.
Do you have a family member or friend you trust who is a "geek" that can help you out Often, the best way is a hands on solution. It probably is something very simple, but it may be one of those "you need to be there" situations.

Restore your system to an earlier time when everything works. Always does it for me. A recent IE7 update totally messed up one of my printers. I just went to System Tools/Restore and turned back my system to a happier time.

OK, what model Brother are you using?
I need to know that before I can give any other suggestions.
Are you using the Brother drivers?
There are drivers included in Windows, but those aren't the ones to use, no matter if you are using XP. Vista or 7.

OK, I have to take off, so
a couple of things.
Go to the Brother website
http://www.brother-usa.com/downloads/
download the drivers for your model.
Before you install the new drivers, go into control panel, go into programs and features and uninstall anything to do with Brother. Then you need to disconnect your printer from the computer. Run the install for the new printers, but don't plug in your printer until the program prompts you to do so. After all is said and done, should work provided your updates are current, and you have no spyware or viruses.

and don't forget to restart your computer
between the uninstall and the install of the new drivers.

Re: HELP----- Window fax scanner...I have done
Funny you should ask, I had to go to Brother's website today to download a driver for a dfferrent computer and noticed there was a WINDOWS 7 driver available for my older printer. You should go the Brother website (Brother.com) and use the dropdown under Support to search for your MFC model number. I'm fairly certain you will find a Win7 driver. Good luck and post back if that does not fix the problem. I'm a little concerned that you say it was scanning and no can also right click on the printer/MFC in printers and faxes, go to preferences and click on the the support tab and print out the info. there may be a clue there. Depending on the model, are you using the document table or auto feed to scan? Maybe there is something stuck in autofeed?
Reminds me of the time I got called to look at some elderly friend's HP injet. Just stopped working. Printer was on a pullout shelf down to the left of their feet. Turned out there was a PEANUT that had dropped into the paper feed area. We all had a good laugh. Worked fine after the peanut extraction!
