Low-ball companies

Seems like last 2 or 3 days I've been getting several calls from various low-ball companies. Some even saying they found me here on NotRot.

What's going on? Is it slithering time again?? Wink

Yup.... my phone's been ringing this morning, most of the calls are coming from 1-2 star companies. I just let them go to voicemail. I don't even want to deal with them. I'll at least talk to a 3-star one... but the others? Not so much.

It took time to set up, but I imported all of the name and numbers from SC to my Blackberry, along with their start rating. The 1-2 star places are put on a "silent" ring, so I don't even know they've called until I look at my phone again.

You know how many of them leave messages? None.

I will always return the call, though, if they bother to leave a message, no matter the company. well, not for SOX.... but they don't call me anymore, thankfully.

I know that seems a bit rude, but I am not going to spend time haggling with a compnay who won't be bothered to pay the little they "offer" anyway.

Agree with Marian

Like you, the 1 - 2 star companies are on "silent" ring and their calls go to voicemail. What's the point of engaging in any dialogue with a lowballer.....they won't meet my fee so what is there to discuss?

It's not rude at all, just a standard

of which we all have or should have...Personally, I cannot engage in conversation with most of the 3-stars.

I'll usually talk to the 3-stars.... but it never gets far. Smile

I wonder why…? What…? 286 thousand plus notaries in CA? They can just keep calling and calling and calling…one can make a lot of calls for $50.

I stand corrected. Thanks Marian! I was actually relying on your posted figures (186,626). I just typed it wrong. My point was in CA lots of notaries, and NOT lots of jobs.

Actually

Les, you have a Colorado population of approx (5 million, 2010 census will tell) and you have approx 100,00 notaries.

CA has a population of approx 38 million and we have 186,000 notaries.

California makes it very difficult to be a notary compared to other states and that is why
we have always had the least notaries per capita in the last several years. The reasons are:

Proctored test
6 hr study period or classroom attendance
Fingerprints every 4 years and they go to the DOJ & FBI.
Surety Bond
Passport type photo attached to application
$40 fee to the Sec of State

I always get a kick out of notaries who have been commission in another state and go through the process of being a CA Notary: deer in the headlights is a good comparison!

Re: Actually

Yes. I have plenty of competition here. When a low-ball company calls me I say just call someone else, there are many notaries here that will work for less than I charge, but feel free to call me if you need someone to go back correct any mistakes.
Colorado was one of those States that require you fill out the form, and pay the fee. That’s it. Now one must take/pass training, take/pass a test, and fill out the application and pay the fee. Some talk about continuing education….. We now have clearer guidelines as far as ID goes, and now must keep a journal. It’s changing here……slowly.
