Re: New Opportunity For Notaries!!
I think you will find that many notaries are not interested in doing "debt presentation" work.

From their website...
Third Party Liability. Our nationwide debts presenters carry personal E&O Insurance as well as a blanket E&O Insurance up to $1,000,000 per transaction.
You've got to be kidding me, you expect us to carry a million in E&O insurance? What have you been smoking?

Re: From their website...it's not worded well
but since they state a "personal" E&O policy, I think they mean their reps are covered under THEIR $1M blanket policy...
I still don't care to do this type of work.

Re: Opportunity or not, this is ADVERTISING!
Well, if it's anything like their auto loan packages, a starting rate of $70 is actually pretty good for the amount of work involved --- if it's anything like their auto loan work of course. I'll take any auto loan assignment Maverick sends my way... they aren't anything like real estate loans, and the docs are always overnighted to my door, except for a single document that I am asked to print.
Just because it's $70 doesn't mean it's cheap labor... you can't compare them (the auto loans) to RE loans. Now this new stuff? Who knows what that entails... I can just tell you that Maverick does pay quite fairly, and right on time for their auto stuff.

Re: Marian, how far would you travel for that $70?
All of the ones I've done for them have been right in town... within 10 miles or so, and the appointments are super quick, 10-15 minutes tops and involve one notarization (sometimes 2 depending on the dealer). For the most part, they're just like a regular notary appointment, except that I drop off the docs @ the FedEx hub on my home. Seriously, they're way easy and Sylvia is always very communicative with me. I've really only had one that was unusual and it was because the guy couldn't make up his mind if he wanted to co-sign the loan or not so he kept putting off making an appointment for like, 2 weeks.
Now, as for this other thing??? Yeah... I'm not doing that after watching their training videos and reading the CNN article about it. Getting notaries to do face-to-face meetings is a great loophole around an FTC rule that went in to effect this week about up-front fees. Yeah... not going there.

Re: don't they charge for auto loan signings like $45??
They have an initial training for $29, but a LOT of notaries are contacted directly and never pay that fee. I paid it years ago kind of stupidly... but I don't really regret it now because I've more than made up for it.

And FYI...
The company offering this training is in Florida (Maverick is in California). The company has the same address as Nationwide Financial/Pinnacle Law Firm, one of the many loan modification companies... only they claim they just prepare paperwork.
That said, just yesterday the FTC issued pretty strict guidelines for these debt settlement companies:
http://money.cnn.com/2010/10/27/pf/debt_settlement_fee_rule/
I just sat through the training to see what it was... and despite a few glaring spelling issues... what they claim to be doing appears to be in line with federal rules. But, I can't say that for sure.... especially given this note in the article:
"That means if you meet a company representative face-to-face -- or if a notary swings by your home just to have you sign the paperwork -- you could still wind up paying the hefty upfront fees.
Because of this loophole, Bowne said she wouldn't be surprised if many companies follow up their traditional phone solicitations with in-person presentations so they are able to continue to bring in revenue."
So... yeah... not feeling too great about that one...

Re: New Opportunity For Notaries!!
I hope that Maverick re-thinks their venture into this "new" field. I love to do their auto transactions. The debt resolution stuff is full of potential lawsuits, IMHO.
