Need help - Brother 5340 printer
I've had it a month. When original cartridge caused toner lite to blink, put in new one (from LD). Worked fine. When toner ran out ( toner lite yellow, status lite red), put in refilled original cartridge. Tries to print but toner lite goes yellow, status goes red. Refilled LD cartridge - same thing happens. Put tape over indicator port - no change.
Am I missing something?
Thank goodness for backup printers.
TIA

I am beginning to think Brother has fixed their printers so you can't use anything but Brother toner. I have 2 5370's and tried to use LD toner in each and both locked up each time. Had to take printer's to tech shop because toner cartridge becomes locked into the printer, and won't print. Tech guy told me not to use anything but a Brother toner cartridge because he sees this a lot with Brother printers. I asked about refills and he said don't do it with a Brother. Sorry this didn't help with your problem but you're not alone saying dirty words to your Brother printer.

I've had no problems in the past - just retired a 5040 with 190,000 pages. Have a 5140 - backup -which works fine. Have refilled for years with no problems. LD cartridge worked fine when first inserted. Won't since I refilled after "toner out". Must be something with a reset.

Re:Art...Try this
Unplug your printer. Leave unplugged for a minute. Plug back in and when it warms up, press and hold the Go button for about 30 seconds.
It is supposed to clear everything and set it back to factory defaults. I havent tried this but was told this just yesterday by someone who uses Brother Printers for his business.

found a solution...
After extensive search, found that there is a reset wheel on the cartridge. Had to reposition it. Repositioned it, then ran my printer settings and it now shows 100% life left on toner. Anyone needing more info, I can send you a website which shows the wheel and how to reposition it.
Thanks,

Re: found a solution...
You can either post here or PM me with the info please. There are so many Brother users here though, posting would be valuable with orange search button....

Please post it!
I would love to hear how to find answers. I have two Brother printers and I am a fan of their products but just in case it might come in handy some day. Thanks so much! Best end of month to you all.

resetting brother toner wheel - web address
http://www.oasis-imaging.com/images/pdf/cart_inst/TN650.pdf
This shows how they refurbish cartridge. Pic 2 shows wheel when reads empty, pic 13 shows how to reset when full. Actual wheel may vary with manufacturer, LD is slightly different, but where to set teeth should be the same.
Hope this helps.
