Paper curling up...
OK... I've been printing documents for a long time -- and I know that it's been unseasonably humid here lately - BUT I've never had the problem with paper curling up that I've had in the last couple of days. It's one thing for it to be a headache when you're straightening out the piles, but when it curls up so bad that it affects the paper output and the pages get out of order, that's another thing! It's primarily the letter size pages, so I'm assuming it's the paper I recently bought through that great deal at Office Max (Boise).
I'm hoping I just put it into the printer with the wrong side up. (I'll let you know... ) Otherwise, I guess I'll be going back to buying all my paper at Costco. Has anyone else had any issues with the Boise paper from Office Max?

Your laser printer's fuser might be going. That can cause extra heat, which will curl the paper. You might have the fuser checked out. I've had this trouble with my machines right around 100,000 pages.

I had the same problem today.
I have 2 Brother MFC 8860 DN printers and it was the new one that had the problem. After the problem with paper, I printed on the new 8860 Dn to watch how it printed and

hit the enter button by mistake
the paper was all all over the place ( upside or almost slightly sideways) I think it must be the paper and the legal size paper was purchased months ago from Quill.

Re: hit the enter button by mistake
I'm hoping it's the paper. I don't seem to be having the same problem with my legal size - which did come from Costco. Also, this printer is an HP - no where near 100K pages yet. (I've never had a fuser issue with any of my HPs.)
BTW, for the last batch I printed, I flipped the paper the other way and that seemed to help. I was near the end, so it wasn't enough to really tell. Tomorrow will be a better test to see if it makes much difference.

I have the same problem with my Brother MFC
but only on legal paper and I made sure I had the paper in right - I end up with the printing page pushing the prior page right out of the output tray - onto the floor....I have to stand there and grab each page as it comes out. Do NOT have this problem with my HP. Needless to say the Brother is my backup printer, which is a shame because it prints a lot faster.

Re: I have the same problem with my Brother MFC
I have had the same problem with my Brother HL5150, but only with legal paper - I think the Brother printers just tend to run hotter. Legal paper takes just a little longer to go through, and that seems to be enough to curl the paper.

I agree with Jessica, I don't think it's the paper.

It’s mainly because of the humidity, applying heat to damp paper will make it curl, try to store the paper in the driest area possible. The type of printer you have also plays a part; the amount of curl depends on where the heat is applied. I had to babysit my old Brother printer when it was humid, as the curled paper would push out onto the floor, that’s how bad it got. With my recently purchased professional printer, not a problem!

Great article from Adobe Magazine ...

(Even though this article was published in 1996, it is still pertinent today, especially with the cost of paper being so high.)

Off topic question
Do you have to have a membership to buy from Costco ?
Curling paper is a problem when it's humid. If you have the time. When you print everything out then put them upside down on a table then put a heavy book on them. Just let it sit for a while and they will straighten out. Most of my clients call a day or two before the appointment and send the documents at least a day before the appointment. One lucky notary.

"... documents at least a day before the appointment"?!?!
I wish! For me, it's more like an hour or two!

Likely it's the humidity
Happens quite a bit here, but the problem stops if I open a new, sealed ream and use that.

What a GREAT tip!
The obvious often escapes me - I'd have NEVER thought to do this!
