Poll question TIA
I am wondering if any one just calls fedex to have them pick of the package or do you always drive and drop off the package. I know the return time matters some times. Today it it woulds have worked out for me. I would love to save the time and gas when I can. TIA

I have a FedEx/UPS authorized retailer only 2 miles from my home and they have Saturday pickup, so I never call for a pickup. I've heard that the pickup fee will get billed to the person requesting the pickup, not the account that the package is being shipped on, unless the account holder sets up the pickup request.

I never ...
not only due to the extra charge, but the lack of security. Lots of TC's include this as a prohibited action in their instructions, for those reasons.

Me either, so I generally make sure
to map out the closest Fedex/Kinko to where I will be signing, before I leave the office.

Re: I never ...
I agree. I'm lucky in that there is a local PostNet around the corner from me where I usually take my pkgs. instead of a drop box, and they have Sat. pickups for Fedex & UPS. I also have several Fedex Office's to choose from. I only use drop boxes as a last resort.

I've thought about it, but so far I always drop it off. The closest place that accepts FedEx is about 15 miles from me, but that's the price of living in the country.

Be careful calling for pick ups. FEDEX and UPS are now charging a pick up fee $10 - 15 additional to ship fee. Some of our clients have seen an unexpected increase to shipping expenses. If you live in a very rural area that has no drop box/facility, then pick up is understandable. You may save yourself a charge back from lenders if you let SS or title co know that there will a CALLEDi-IN pick up as there is no provision for dropping of docs in your town.

Thanks Gina, I am glad I asked. Just a thought to save a 7 mile drive for me. I guess I should drive. There is a mail box drop that is closer but that may end up being a next day pickup most of the time. I guess I keep on driving them into the next town.

Oldie...um... 'very experienced' Notary here. From '93 to about '02, I did call for pickup a lot as my location was very rural and I never seemed to be close to a town with even a dropbox. At that time, it was a non-issue with TC/SS. (Truthfully, I don't know if there was an extra charge for that or not, but, if memory serves, they used to provide the FedUps pickup # on the Order.) Since sometime in '02, my location changed and I have dropboxes within reasonable driving distance and so just began dropping and not calling. Don't remember when they stopped providing a pickup #...but it's been quite a while!

Never
if the receiver refuses to pay, you get to pay the tab + pickup fee + reversal fee because they know who you are. Always use the receivers address as the sending address and drop in a box.

Wow that much. Good reason to never do it.

I used to call for pick ups as it gave me till 6:30 to have everything ready for the day. Then they started charging for that service, saying that I had to pay and it couldn't be charged - cash only. Paid $1.00 once and then began to take to a 6:30 drop box about 2 miles away next to my Sushi place. That's FedEx.
UPS - harder for me to find drop boxes but I swear on the timeliness of the Great Pumpkin it really doesn't matter. I see them everywhere so if I am drinving I just stick the package out the window and they pull right up and we exchange receipt for package. FedEx just won't stop like UPS drivers.

There is 1 UPS box in my area..UPS store is 25 mins from my office. I use the drop box but I dont like to as I have had issues in the past with box not being picked up. I drop FED Ex at a local RE office otherwise it would be the same distance. I drop packages where I can. Living in a rural area is great but there are challenges!

Semi-rural here. No Saturday services. Pick-up time
at one each FedEx and UPS Boxes in town is 1:30 PM FedEx, and 2:30 PM respectively. Only one UPS authorized MailPlace does not charge to drop off a completed, ready to go envelope. (I don't pay to drop off at an 'Authorized' dealership.)
With such limited time and drop-off availability, my first responsibility is to return docs, and knowing all of the available drop-offs, including scouring the Highway to find the last truck headed out - which, it turns out is successful alot. (With the HUGE ENVELOPE on the dash, I've been known to flash my Brights at the Oncoming FedEx Express Van/UPS Brown Truck, then cop a UIE across that Double Line, looking carefully both ways, of course, after seeing that Driver caught the Deal and pulled right over into the wide spot in the road. Mr. Policeman nodded a howdy as The Truck went South and I went back North.)
Occasionally, a Pick Up at home facilitates an expedited Doc Return, and I don't assume that extra cost, if any.
Meeting my deadlines is my Middle Name. Return costs upon the requester for Borrower's benefit.
Remote closinga have their limitations, and at the same time, the benefits of personal accountability. One of the reasons I have thrived in our industry is Customer Service - from Borrower through Lender. "Your Borrowers Are My Neighbors." It's true, and guides my work ethic.
So my take on returning docs is: it's all on the requester. I do what I can, literally, and things out of my control are on them to serve our Borrowers.
jmho.

I always drop FedEx packages off at the FedEx World Center or UPS packages at a UPS store or shipment center. The FedEx World Center is less than 5 minutes from where I live and is open until 9 pm during the week, 5 pm on Saturdays. The UPS shipment center is about 10 minutes away and closes for dropoffs at 7 pm during the week (unless you have a prepaid shipping label then you can drop off until 8 pm). The pick up time for UPS store dropoffs is about 6 pm.
I ask for drop-off receipts as well.
