This seems stated wrong

I have a document which states:

Sworn to and subscribed before me this the 21 day of October, 2010 by _______________________ appeared Jane Doe.

Jane doe is the signer but it seems to me that the blank line should have her name in there. I have never seen this wording before and am confused by it. How do I fill this one out?

Yep. Somebody was out to lunch when that was drafted. Draw a line thru it or get fancy and ~~~~~~~~, but otherwise I'd just ignore it. You can't fix stupid.

Would you attach an Individual Acknowledgment to it and send it with the package? Or just put the "fancy"stuff through the line and continue as normal?

I'd like through "appeared Jane Doe", and print her name in the blank space. Seems simple enough to correct. At least in VA, we can correct the notarial certificate to the proper language.

Re: Does MN notary law address proper wording of a jurat?

I am convinced that once they have the basic programs on their computers, they never go back now and then to see if the layouts have changed. I see all kinds of scenarios where while filling in a field or tweaking the wording in a doc or they hit a space bar and everything jumps down a line. I occasionally get one where signature lines are at the top of the next page.
They literally do not check their own documents but operate of faith in the computer.
My guess is that the Jane Doe was supposed to be typed in for you.
