Took a last minute signing--should have known better. Called the borrower when I was on my way because I was with a client when I accepted.

Borrower started ranting about the lender, I told him that I was not the lender. He continued being beligerant, then started cursing at me, I don't take that so I hung up on him. Won't accept a reschedule with that one!

Sorry you had to endure that. Tip (I do it all the time). When someone starts going 51/50 on you, just be very quiet and when they finish and noticing the lack of a response, they usually will either hang-up or say hello? When that happens, simply say, "Ooh, were you talking to me"? That will really pixx them off. LOL

James, I don't think your way will tick them off as much as hanging up on them and refusing to see them. I would have hung up on them also. With my luck though, they wait until I get there before abusing me. I walk out. A notary should have some self respect and not allow anyone to insult or abuse them. Period.

This is one reason I love to read this forum.

I would have never thought to approach it like that! I am sure the trick to not coming off like a smart a$$ must be in the delivery. I'll need to practice!

Re: This is one reason I love to read this forum.

I agree. A sure way to lose in a confrontation like that is to reduce yourself to their level. Lots of times, a person goes off just because they want to be heard or they want some one to empathize with them. The minute you try to cut them off, you're entrenching yourself with the "them" that they're angry with and it has the opposite affect you want.

My reaction to something like that is usually something like "Really?" and/or "Wow!" or "I know what you mean..." If you empathize, then you're on their side and they're likely to calm down once they've got it out of their system. And yes, I think delivery has a great deal to do with it! Maybe it's easy for me to say because I mostly encounter pretty nice people. But I've run into lots of people who have been angry and wanted to vent, but I can't recall it ever being directed at me. (Could it be that it's partly a matter of perception?)

Re: Venting....am I the only one that thinks there's an

awful lot missing in this story? Went from "took a last minute signing" to "called while on my way" to "hung up on borrower"....??

got a BETTER rant...had 11am yesterday (scheduled the

night before) By 9am, no docs,..I start calling, emailing, SS had no info, kept referring me to TC. TC had not responded.

By 1pm, got the official canceled confirmation email, (in big black letters Wink No biggie for me as I was busy with other projects - whatever. no harm done.

Same SS calls me up again, says, hey sorry about that, but I've got another one for you, different TC. I said okay, for same price....back and forth as to why since its closer bla bla bla...they got approval and agreed.

Got docs by 3ish, downloaded, print and was off....5 minutes to BO home, I call to let them know I was very near, then BO said oh, sorry, but we are not signing, TC screwed up figures, bla bla bla...I start getting pi$$ed!

But I said okay, hung up, while at the same time, veering my van to get back on the expressway, when it starts to act funny...my tranny starts to give...ah...van hit 110k should've known...what would've taken me 25 minutes to get home, took 2 hours!

Sorry, but as I was writing my post, yours popped up, so.....I think we both had crappy days and needed to vent!

My contribution: Got docs nearly an hour late from TC for a split signing (husband and wife at different times). In some strange format so they had to print, scan and email them to me 12-14 pages per email, all piecemeal. So I get to the Primerica office and neither one was there! The "LO" calls the wife, I have to wait 20 minutes for her to arrive. Ok, sign all the docs and she leaves.
Still no husband. Asked the LO for the 5th time where is he (always got a vague answer), now I hear "He's at the bowling alley". Now I'm asking him, is he really going to sign? Again, vague answer.
Now it's do or die and I'm NOT going to wait around for the husband! So I said fine, let's go to the bowling alley and get this over with. Get there and (no surprise) after paging him he walks up to the LO and says "I told you I'm NOT signing ANYTHING"! We were walking towards him as he said it and I just kept right on walking past him right out the door! Complete waste of time.
