What a day.

Showed up this morning at an older couple's house, just shooting the bull while getting set up and the conversation turned to past jobs. Turns out the gentleman was a chemist working on the Manhattan project in Oakridge, TN.

He wanders off for a moment while I am getting ready and brings back a picture of him age 23 with Einstein taken on one of the visits Einstein made to check up on his boys. I asked if he had any regrets on what he helped bring in to the world, he said "none, and if called upon again he'd sign right back up."

An incredible day.

Sorry, what I meant was the Manhattan project in Oakridge.

I was just thrilled at the idea of Einstein. How silly of me.

Re: Manhattan Project

First it was worked on in Chicago by Fermi. Then it went to Sandia, NM. Finally UC took it on and it ended up at the Lawrence Livermore Lab in Livermore, CA.
My husband and i once saw Edward Teller and his chauffeur shopping at the Albertson's in Livermore.
