Witnesses not required in HI

NOTE: New rules applicable to notaries commissioned in Hawaii became effective as of May 5, 2008. The new rules are also covered in Act 175, Session Laws Hawaii 2008, which also concerns notaries public and become effective on January 1, 2009. One purpose of these new rules is to help prevent fraudulent use of notarized documents by, among other things, having the notary public note the number of pages for each notarized document and providing an identification or description of the notarized document in a notary certification near the notary acknowledgment or jurat. Documents which are acknowledged by a notary public out of state do not require the certification although his or her respective state's laws or practice may require something similar.
