Login question

Is there a way to remain logged into NotRot when I leave the site?

Leave it in its own window? That's what I do ...

multiple windows open

Windows, windows, windows! Open and clean....clearly seen.
(lots of fun here - lol)

Not really

When you log in, you are given a "session ID". That ID remains active as long as you maintain a connection and open window on the server. When you shut down your browser or you leave the NotRot site, your session will 'time out' since there was no activity.

Many forums use cookies to capture certain information, so when you return to the site, the cookie is read and the new session is started. However, it appears that NotRot is not one of them. Whenever you return to this site, you must log in to start a new session. It's just the way it is.

I don't know about that Paw -

I have a "favorite" button for NR on my toolbar, that when I access it, it is an old message from my dear loved one LV and most - not all, but most - of the time I can just go straight to whichever forum I wish. Once is a while I get directed to the login page, but only once in a while.

This will happen after I have been totally logged out and coming from another site.

Re: I don't know about that Paw -

Remember, you do not need to be logged in to access the forums. Also, unless you completely shut down the browser and empty the cache, you session cookie will probably still be valid.

Remember when everyone was having the problem of their session timing out while creating replies? That was probably due to too short of a timeout for the session. I don't know what the parameters are now, but I would guess it's in the range of many hours, not a couple of minutes. So going back to the same site without closing the browser and/or shutting down your PC, the cookie that was created when you logged in last will be active. The server sees that cookie and it matches an active session so you're good to go.

Many forums use cookies... Speaking of cookies,

how is Sylvia doing?
