More ridiculous state (California) agency forms

Check out these from the State Alcohol Beverage Control.... have an appointment tomorrow to notarize an application package.

That's just some of them. The "attest" part at the very bottom where it says, "ABC Employee or Notary Public".

"ATTEST" That's it. That's a new one for me.

This is going to be loose form heaven. Smile

If our own state agencies can't even get it right, there's no hope for anyone else.

There is no hope. The last two CALPERS loans I did still had "personally known" on the Deed ack. Sad .....

Re: Marian, are you expected to notarize these forms? Where?

Yup... apparently the ABC will accept the forms notarized if the person does not appear in person to handle the paperwork. Apparently, I'm notarizing for one of two partners. The other partner is then taking the paperwork to the ABC office in Bakersfield for processing.

The only indication is where, at the very bottom, it notes the person's signature is "attested" by an ABC employee or a Notary Public.

Interesting - they don't say Ack or Jurat. We can't pick. n/m

Right, I know. I'm going to leave that to the signers....

However, two of the three forms are affidavits... with statements that say, "I have read all of the above and declare under penalty of perjury that each and every statementis true, correct and complete."

GC 8202(b) (page 24 of handbook) says, "To any affidavit subscribed and sworn to before a notary, there shall be attached a jurat...."

So, the best I can do is show them the handbook and let them choose. No biggie, I do that all the time. I just find these forms hilarious. I mean, it makes sense for an ABC employee to just sign off on it, but it just so randomly adds "Notary Public" too.

My experience with attest is in giving an oath. I always say "swear or attest".
I actually had one woman who said she doesn't swear.
