My Sony Vista laptop won't start
I have gone through their drill to see if it could be corrected by their internal problem solving and it can't.
Any ideas as to what could be causing this and how to fix it or do I just "toss it and buy a new laptop"? Thanks

Repairing it might be less expensive than buying a new one. Only you can determine that.

"Won't Start" is a pretty general description.
Does it give you any error codes? Could be a lot of things. My wife's laptop, a Sony Vio, had the hard drive fail. Just picked up a replacement for 100 bucks, reloaded it and onward. It could also mean the boot sector was corrupted in some manner
Provided your computer came with the system disk, you might be able to restore it booting from the system DVD ROM. Once you boot from the disk, it will give you some options such as "repair" or "restore", or something similar.
Some Sonys don't come with the disks, but with instructions to make your own, so hopefully you made the disks.

I had a Sony Vaio laptop for a long time and it had a sleeping disorder. I had to disconnect it's ability to hybernate or take naps. However, the last time it slept without me telling it to, it was dead, poor thing. Good luck with yours, hope it didn't die.

This happened to my daughter's vaio and they told us to remove the battery, leave the battery off, plug it in and try turning it on. It worked and it is still working three months later.

Unplug it. Remove the battery and leave the battery compartment off the computer. Now hold the on button down for 10-15 seconds. Replace the battery. If need be, plug it up. Start computer.
This happens to mine on occasion and this is what my computer tech says do. It works every time. There is a build up of excess energy and the process discharges it.

You could also buy a program called Spotmau 2010 which will start any computer from the CD. In addition, you could transfer data off that machine and store it someplace else, until you get the drive back in workingorder. You can buy new drives for that machine for about $79.00 from: apricorn, com Hope this helps.
Once you have all the data of the old drive, just start the computer keeping the F10 key depressed. That will reformat the drive and re-install the operating system and default programs that came with the machine when you got it.
You can PM me if you need more info.
