Nations Direct Did NOT Offer Me $40
Got a call at 3:06p.m from Nations Direct (800-969-7779). They wanted me to go to Centerville, TN (I am in Bon Aqua) at 6:00p.m. the BO had the docs.
I quoted a fee of $110.00. She said, "But you are close on the map."
I explained that just saying Centerville could mean up to an hour and a half drive--this is a very rural area. (that has not completely recovered from the floods in May.)
So she gives me the complete address and I MapQuest it. 43 minute drive (if no traffic at the time of day all the people that work in Nashville are coming home and Moms are getting their children to extra curricular activities on 2-lane highways with posted speed limits of an average of 40 mph), 30.78 miles one-way.
This lady then tells me I live in Hohenwald, Lewis County or Lawrenceberg (which I have never lived in either)-she is looking at my profile on that other site and that mapquest says it is less than 20 miles door to door!
I inform her I have never lived in either of those places and that I was just looking at that profile today and it has my correct address in Bon Aqua.
So I ask her what she is offering. She says, "Our normal is $40 but I am NOT offering you that. All we want you to do is go out there and make sure the docs are dropped back to us."
Me, "Do I need to notarize these docs?"
She, "Yes, and drop them back to us TODAY." ( The last pickup is 5:30 p.m.)
Me, "Okay that means I have a 73.56 mile round trip, plus the time to make sure all docs are properly executed and the notarizations."
She, "Its UPS."
Me, "The closest drop boxes for all carriers are together in the same place."
She, "What will you do it for?"
Me, after consulting my husband and biz partner (with a look), "$90.00."
She, "I'll call you back if I can get that approved."
I think I made a good choice. I can not believe this conversation was even had!!!

Had that happen to me also " I'll call you back if I can get that approved." Also had them shop me after agreeing to my fee. Then they canceled me four hours before the signing. I turned down another job from a reputable company for the same time. This company sucks,,,,stay away!!!!!!!!

You learn fast, Jim. This is a company not worth wasting any time on--they are the ultimate low-ballers!

If ND's main concern (or any SSs' main concern) is how "close" you are to the borrower - and not the fact that your are printing docs, guiding the borrowers through the loan, notarizing docs and dropping them ASAP, then my fee to get out of bed and walk out the door is $100.

I wonder if their "location awareness" maps also show designated "war zones" or gang turf? Not to mention police dept. crimeview states,..."5 attempted robberies in last two days".

I wouldn't have done it for less than $125.00. If they don't like it, let them find a cheaper notary. The price of gas is going up and on top of that, you are taking a chance on getting paid. Not worth the hassle. I have a very negative attitude these days about companys. I am turning down a lot of signings from low ball companys or bad companys. These days, I'm particular who I work for. I've been burned too many times.

I can not believe you agreed to $90!
For me that would've cost at the very least $150.00 - take it or leave it! There is no wiggle room when you have to go that far for a closing! How can there be and still expect to make a profit!

Re: I can not believe you agreed to $90!
I knew they wouldn't accept it. It was just an offer to see how they would handle it.

Nations Direct does NOT always lowball.
I did one about a month ago and it was anything but that at $XXX+.
When they wanted my fee I mentally added....$25 for faxbacks and $25 for annoyance (for
their ton of phone calls which I didn't answer).
Amazingly they accepted..because they were in a bind and it was my way or the highway.
But, that's the exception rather than the rule.
Normally...it's "I'll see if I can get that approved" and that's the end of it.
Or, if they do accept...they call later to cancel (found somebody cheaper).
But, around here they don't have much choice...so they're kind of in a box with high sides.
Tough Beans...Nations.

Did you get paid?
There are a few notaries around here that will do it $40. They crop up every year about this time-trying to get $$ for Christmas. It doesn't last long though. Many times I end up getting called to go fix the messes they leave.

I have never not been paid by Nations.
And, ironically, the biggest fee I ever received came from Nations.
But everything has been on time and within the parameters that they set out.
Getting paid is something I don't worry about with them.
Almost everything else is.

Me: "My fee for edocs is $150.00" Scheduler: "Can you lower your fee?" Me: "Can you raise your fee!" Scheduler: "I will see if I can get this approved" Me: "Just take me out of your database and quit wasting my cell phone minutes"
