Non Payment for Services Rendered

I have recently run into some shady closing companies who feel they do not have to pay me for closings I have completed. I am posting this information to inform other Notaries of the recourse they can take against these companies. After having companies disappear off the face of the planet I have done hours of research of what can be done about non payment for services rendered! After all Notaries are the only people customers see and we are held to a hire standard than the closing companies we are contracted by and we recieve the least amount of money for the most amount of work. Here is a link to where you can start your journey to recieving the money you are owed.

http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx

This is a link to the Interney Crime Bureau of the FBI

Since the closing confirmations are sent as a contract if you choose to accept the job this is the place to report the crime! Yes crime they are recieving services for an agreed to price and if they feel as though they do not have to pay they are mistakenly WRONG!!!!

The BBB is another place to file a complaint so there is record of this company's criminal activity and fraud!

If there is anymore questions you may have feel free to contact the IC3 and start there. You can also contact your local government if you are working for a company in the same state you work and reside!

These bad companies make it bad for the good ones that do pay the notaries on time as agreed to.

I have recently stopped taking all closings unless I am contracted directly from the Title Company or an Attorney!

This is my experience and I hope my leg work has helped in someway to stop these horrible companies from costing me more money than I make.

You do not have to hire an attorney to recover the money you are owed. Just follow the steps I have mentioned above and you WILL get your money!

Not if they have filed bankruptcy!

The BBB is useless with complaints. The only people that care are businesses that are members. Think of it this way... the BBB represents consumer much like the NNA represents Notaries.

I do think that if we stopped taking work from signing services, title and Escrow companies would start getting the hint. But we all know that's never going to happen. Plus there are a few good signing services left. But only a few.

Nicki...

Your profile is rather limiting, and there ARE good SS out there.

Also suggest you consider providing general notary services to the public; it can be quite a lucrative endeavor for you, and it's what notaries were doing long before there were loan signings!
