Notary vs. Loan Closer--Venting!
I've been hearing a lot of feedback from companies lately about the above. While you have to be a notary to be a NSA, you also need to know how to close a loan. I'm hearing the horror stories from ss & tc's, about the people out there who think it is only their job to notarize the pages that require it. NOT!!!!! Most of you know this already, so it is just a rant. IMLTHO, if someone isn't in this business to take the responsibility seriously, find another line of work. Thanks for letting me vent. I'm tired of having the deal with the baby-sitting, hand-holding, and lower fees because of those who undermine the industry.

I closed a loan today, my first time working for a company that many on here just love to death. I was nauseated by the plethora of RULES they have, and I even had to initial a checklist of 15 items that are no-duh stuff that every loan signer should already do every time. I work for lots of good companies that send me a job and let me do my thing, so I'm not used to being babysat. I had to call in my closing confirmation and I got asked to "double check to make sure the TIL, RTC, and page 2 of HUD/VA addendum are signed and dated. OMG this company doesn't pay enough for all the extra hand holding and all the rules. If they are used to notaries missing these things, I think they need to be willing to pay for quality notaries. I was surprised they even agreed to the fee I quoted. Not sure I will work for them again.

I am NOT a loan closer! I am an Notary who also is a NSA (not certified even yet). I know what must be done to get the loan funded per instructions. I also am a independent contractor who is hired to do a job, not critic the SS/TC's work. Anything more/extra must be paid for. Don't worry CopperheadVA,....

Venting
I just read thru the instructions, giggle a little, and proceed with what I'm paid to do. The thing that really gets my goat is those STOP signs, I swear they're getting bigger!!

I understand what you're saying, James. PAW has covered it
a few times. When we're handling loans we are wearing more than one hat. We are bound by our state's notary laws, of course, but need to know how to handle the loan docs. That's all I was trying to say. I also respect that there are many notaries on the forum who are not NSA's. In that case, we also need to know how to handle POA's, etc. It's just about knowing one's job.

I know exactly who you're referring to, Linda. They are
still my favs. I got a call the other day from them, needing to cover basic 101. I can't hold it against the staff--they are just doing their job. Again, it wouldn't be so much of an issue if they weren't dealing with so many errors on their end. As you said, it's the first time you've worked for them. They have something in the database about "reminders" on the first x no. of signings you do for them. The plus side is you will be pleasantly surprised by the quick payment--usually about 2 weeks.

Talk about hearing feedback from TC... A short time ago I had a signing for a TC that I do about 3-4 a week for them... They had a list of do's and don'ts in the package.. Also this was at the end of the do's and don'ts,,,
((Please let each notary know this. I am spending way too much time and money cleaning up after the NOTARIES. Thank you. XXX ))
I been doing signings for XXX for a long time so I gave her a call about this.. Her reponse... she laughed and said, thats not for you... But, we have started putting it in all packages because of all the notaries that think they know how to do a signing. Just because you are a notary you think you are a NSA... You need to know how the loan process works and who to call to explain it to the BO..

Yes, there's been a lot of it lately. For one thing, I
think everyone in the industry is much more concerned about QC. They can't afford the mistakes in this market. Everything has tightened up. I know not to take it personal. Much of this isn't meant for me. If it applies to me then I know to take heed.

If TCs or SSs hired professionals and paid them well in the first place, they wouldn't have to put out fires from novices in the second place. IMHO, they have no cause to complain when they hire hobbyists at $50 - $90 a pop. In other words, instead of paying more money to fix the mess, pay upfront to have a job completed correctly.
If you have a remodel job that *on avergae* would cost $5,000 and someone says they'll do it for $1,500, what quality of service/product do you think you'd get? I mean, come on!
I have absolutely no sympathy for TCs or SSs that expect a professional job when they're only willing to pay peanuts. They get what they pay for.

They NEVER ask if you know how to do the job but they will tell you, " Oh we only pay XX". What's the focus on?
