Question about signing documents
I have passed the test for my title insurance license but the check and application was never sent in for me to get my actual license.
I was recently told that minus notarizing the closing packages, there are documents that I cannot sign because I don't have my license, like the certification of the settlement statement. Is this true? If so, where can I find the rules of do's and don'ts for this subject?
Thanks! Meg

I'm not clear about what you're asking here, Megan. In VA
we are not required to have a TPL to do loan signings as a Notary Signing Agent. Do you have your notary commission? Do you work for a tc? That would be the only capacity by which you would sign anything that says "settlement agent" or "closing agent" on it. I never sign that verbage on the HUD. Is that what you're asking?

Agree with Marilynn. I never sign as the settlement agent because I am not the settlement agent. The only thing I sign are my notary certificates and perhaps a document that states I have personally seen/transcribed the signer's identification information.
Once the signed package gets sent back to the title company, the processor assigned to the file will sign as the settlement agent.

I'm wondering if someone told her she had to be CRESPA
certified. We'll wait to have her clarify what she's really asking.

Are you a notary? I would think it would be next to impossible to get assignments if you can only do half the loan package. What state are you in, Megan? I guess I'm confused by your post because you say title insurance license.
