Question for the Esteemed: Turning in the journal
Have any of you actually ever turned a notary journal in to the clerk when your commission expired? Or, you resigned?
Many states require this.
I'm just curious about that experience.
I have a note in mine so that if it is found after my death so they can get it to the right place.

I have instructed my family on the importance of returning my Journal to the County Clerk.

I've not had to do this yet... in CA, we are supposed to keep all of our journals, even from past commissions until we're dead or 30 days after our current commission expires, whichever comes first.
My husband and other family members are fully aware of what should happen if I die. Before I had my surgery in June, I made sure everything was set up. There are instructions that specify where to go to turn in the journals and to destroy my seals, too.
There's also a note in the front page of each journal that specifies if the journal is lost/found to take it to the police.

Haven't made any arrangements to secure my journals after I die. If I'm sued over it, there should be plenty of lawyers to defend me where I'm going.
