Chicago Title was at one time the pinnacle of title underwriters. They now have lowered their standards to a level of absurdity. Do it yourself photo id's indeed!!

I reported a Chicago Title notary a few years ago. She didn't even check my ID and had pre-notarized all the documents before I even arrived. She did, however, have me sign her notary book. What good does that do if you don't check ID?
I wrote a letter to the KS SOS about it. I was incensed.

they have in-hosue notaries that get paid $10 an hour
to notarize sigs for the employer...AND the BO are sometimes not in the same room when they sign.....so wrong on so many levels...

Re: This was NOT Chicago Title
Well, I think the point is, because of the memory issues using a camera (previously discussed here on NR) the notary is putting themselves in jeopardy in the event there is a identity thief problem done the road, that's all. So someone else does the, besides Chicago Title (which was my situation).

and James, when I called the borrower and told her I needed
a copy of her DL, she told me that her LO told her that I would take a picture of it for her. I said "oh really".

Would probably be ok if you also took closeup pix of....
their thumb and any birthmarks normally covered by clothes.
