Where have all the signings gone

I started doing signings in March 2010 so I am new. Through marketing, contacting, advertising I have recently been doing about 3 to 4 signings a week. I continue to contact 5 signing or trust companies per day ( 4 star and above). This week = zero signings. Just asking experienced signers is this due to the labor day holiday, middle of the month, or have I upset the signing gods?

Thanks in advance for your input to a newbie.

This week was a little slow for me too. It ebbs and flows sometimes. Feast or famine in this biz it seems. There have been months where the first two weeks I've had NOTHING and then WHAMMO! I get enough during the second half to make a good month.

same here. I know people say that you cannot compare different locations--but I check here all the time and there does seem to be trends that are nationwide.

All of the above

Historically, the first half of the month is slower than the 2nd half. In my experience, if the first few days of the month are good, hang onto your seat cause it USUALLY gets better until about the 25 or 26th (depending on how the last day of the month falls)

IMO if you've been getting 3-4 signings a week as a newbie I think you're doing great. It's a nerve-racking business at times--waiting for the phone to ring. There's no steady paycheck or guarantee in any particular week or month. You're in AZ which is one of the hardest hit areas in the country. If you've worked hard, got your skills down pat, and built good relationships with the companies you've worked for, you will do fine. Timing is good. Rates are fantastic & biz is really picking up. It sounds like you're ready for it when it comes.

I am in Ohio and things are slow for me..I was in Virginia Beach last week with a friend that is an NSA her phone was ringing off the hook. Makes me wonder, but her area has 400,000+ people mine has 50,000! The demographics are so different from one area to another thats its hard to compare ourselves. If you are getting 3-4 a week as a newbie you are doing great..keep up the good work!

It does vary greatly by area. We're very fortunate here--a

lot of VA & FHA streamline refi's have kept us going this year.

I'd be sure to make the big companies priorities such as

Equity National
First American Signature Services
LSI
Service Link
Title Source

I'm sure there are several others, too, but make sure you get in these companies databases if you are not already. Just because of the volume of closings they do.

I usually do 60-80% of my monthly volume in the last week of the month. That said, I've been SLAMMED this week and turning down work almost every day. I can't figure it. I'm never busy in the first week of the month. Sometimes I'll get sent out on "repair jobs" (docs came back from another notary but not done properly, so a re-close is necessarily) but never just outright new work volume. It might be a local market thing.

Guaranteed way to fix this, Jim ...

1. Make a doctor or dentist appointment
2. Tell your mom you're finally going to take her to lunch, & PROMISE.
3. Actually begin to paint the living room (can't just make plans, have to actually start rolling some paint on).
4. See how this works?

Re: Guaranteed way to fix this, Jim ...

That is so true! Two years ago when I painted the kitchen my phone rang off the hook, last year when I put down a vinyl floor in my basement & painted, same thing. Also anytime I babysit my nephews 45 minutes away, I get a call. Trying to figure out what my next major project is! Smile

Re: Guaranteed way to fix this, Jim ...

Agreed. I was down six weeks with a ruptured disc and doped up on muscle relaxers and painkillers.... my phone rang off the hook and I felt awful about answering it knowing I wouldn't make any sense at all. :-/ It was a constant deluge of calls. Remarkably, it hasn't let up for me since getting back to work--and missing out on six weeks of income, I'm glad to answer the calls now!

Mine has always been when I start to mow the lawn. Never fails, phone starts ringing...always get multiple calls for signings at this time!

I got another signing assignment from my favorite, LSI late Friday for next Monday. Looks like I need about 4 or 5 favorites to keep things steady. I want to thank all you experienced signers that have responded to a newbie. I will follow up on all your valuable advice and keep it coming. Thanks again!!!!!!

Also add: Get in the shower,

..... work up lots of shampoo suds. Bingo! The phone rings.

Also, you can ask James Dawson to pray for you. I don't know what notary gods he has connections to, but I guarantee the phone will soon ring with a good job!

Re: Also add: Get in the shower,

Pay for an event whereby the tickets are non-refundable.
Have your car serviced, where they need it "all day".
Be out of: Paper, toner, gas tank on empty, etc.
Go somewhere (anywhere) without your cell phone.
Host an all-day potluck/barbecue.

Re: Also add: Get in the shower,

Have a lazy morning, shower late, make plans for the day and its almost a sure bet you will get called.
