It was about my neighbor requesting I be allowed to do his RM. MV/VA was correct, the SS trucked in a notary from three cities away to accomplish the signing for a low-ball fee (neighbor asked how much they were being paid). I'm glad for my neighbor and I'm glad for the local notaries who stuck to their fees. I feel sad for the notary who felt the need to travel as far as they did for the fee they got. We do what we gotta do.

I was under the impression that the borrower actually has some say-so in who does what (you know that affiliated business arrangement agreement?) I've been requested by friends before and some will do as the borrower requests, others say NO.

considering the fact that some lenders/TC send the docs directly to the borrower, we know it can be done. However, if there's money to be made, well that's a different story. They told my neighbor they had a contract with the SS and had to give it to them. Sound legit.

Maybe.... but I'd be willing to bet that it's 'all about the money'.
