unfair assessment of our company-open letter to poster
Hello. This is Lori with Door2Door Docs (in CA). I have been in this industry for many, many years and have an EXCELLENT reputation for being a professional as well as paying VERY quickly. So, this is an open letter to the individual(s) who gave us a 1 star rating (among many other 4 and 5 star ratings) and said to "contact escrow for payment" or "beware"...but who would not begin a dialogue with us to see what the issue is. I was wondering why you posted this. We've not received any email or call from anyone requesting payment that was due and unpaid. We have never had any calls from any of our clients (escrow) saying that they were contacted by a notary whom we did not pay. I'm sure they would have questioned us about it if this were to have happened. Our reputation is very important to us which is why we treat people fairly and pay quickly- ALWAYS! Please talk with us so we can resolve this issue. If you don't respond, we will assume this was some sort of prank or someone holding some sort of grudge because we chose, for whatever reason, not to hire you for a particular job. We welcome responses on this matter. Thanks for your time.

Hi Lori! This has been discussed before on this forum, I believe. Basically, these aren't actual notaries that are posting these messages, but rather collection agencies or other businesses that are using Signing Central here to drum up business for themselves. If you were to check out other highly respected signing services and title companies, you will also see these 1-star ratings with the same exact comments. Overall, I believe that the vast majority of notaries on this site realize that your company has a very good reputation and that these are basically 'troll' ratings and comments.

I checked and Door to Door's post seems to be a genuine complaint. All 1 star posts are from CA...same person or not, can't tell...but they do not include a phone #.
However, Baragona/MO is also correct in stating that many '1-star' posts to various companies do list a phone # for a collection service apparently trying to drum up some business.

Thank you centralcalnotary and baragona! Lee/AR how were you able to check the validity of the posts?...we couldn't even do that. PS we are Door2Door not Door to Door...the later is, from my understanding, out of business and did leave a lot of notaries high and dry on payment.

Lori, I looked at your profile in SC and instantly recognized the posts for what they are, trolls. Your company has enough 5 star ratings and positive comments to have no effect on NSAs looking for good companies to work with.

Every job I have had from her recently has been paid very quickley. I did one on 8-22-2010 I received payment on Sept 4 2010. That is pretty fast, considering it was mailed.

I rarely post but I just have to add my 2 cents here: Door2Door docs has pays fairly and quickly! It is rare to be treated in such an outstanding manner! I am not sure who would post something negative about this company. They are one of the "Good Guys" and if they call - take the assignment!!!! 5 Star rating all the way!!!

Those vague comments have 0 value to an experienced NR user.
That is one of the problems with the rating system here. Anyone (ie your competitors, a disgruntled notary, etc) can give you a 1-star rating for virtually any reason.
Example:
Signing company calls notary and offers them $50 to do a signing. Notary is insulted by the offer and posts a 1-star rating saying "Lowballers!" or something like that. This is an abuse of the system. I think a signing company should never receive a low rating simply for making an offer that a notary chooses to decline.
I remember one day a while back when a particular signing service got into an argument in public posts with a few of the board regulars who were sort of self-appointed NR board police (most of whom do not post here anymore). That same day - several 1-star ratings popped up in signing central against that company. Again, a clear abuse of the system.
But - despite these faults - overall the rating system does work well. It doesn't take long reading the comments to tell which ones are substantive and which ones are just negative fluff. But to anyone using SC I do recommend reading the comments as opposed to relying solely on the star rating.

Re: Those vague comments have 0 value to an experienced NR user.
While agree that the system can be abused. We have all seen the same "call escrow ..." from CA on several companies. I have always assumed it was a competitor and as such give it the credit it deserves (0 value as you say).
I think that SC is a place for SA's to rate the experiences they have with companies. I would have to say that I disagree with one area that you consider an abuse of the system. IMO, if one accepts a low ball fee, everything goes well, and they are paid as agreed it is difficult to honestly post that they are a low ball company. After all, both parties agreed to the fee. As such a true low ball company may end up with a lot of high marks. Which is fine, if one prefers to accept what is largely considered a lower than professional fee. But for those of us that feel that our fees reflect the level of service and professionalism that we offer and a $50 fee for a 45 mile one way trip signing is an insult we have ever right to let people know that the high marks the company is receiving may be from people that have no issue with accepting these extremely low offers. After all, that is our individual experiences with the companies. I do not feel that to do so is an abuse of the system.
As for the 2 responses that Lori is speaking of, I tend to think that they are probably from a competitor and not from any SA that has actually worked for them. As such, this I believe is an abuse of the system.

I don't need to be told what fee is too low. What I do want
to know are things such as:
Will they pay the agreed fee in a timely manner?
Are docs regularly late?
Are their packages 200+ pages?
Will they call me 6 times before, during and after the closing to make sure I know what I'm doing?
These are the kinds of issues that I want to know about. Things I won't automatically know otherwise. The fee is something that I already know up front and to characterize a company as "poor" because you don't like the fee they offer you undermines the purpose of the system at least from my point of view.

If I accept a job from a company, then I can post the
answers to your questions which are all valid. However, as I stated before, if I accept a low ball fee I wouldn't really have any right to complain about the fee paid. How honest would that be?
I, like most people, don't want to waste my time signing up with companies that have high marks only to find out that they only offer the low fees. It is a waste of my time, just as it is a waste of time to have to hunt down payment IMO.
If I receive 5 calls for assignments and all are low ball offers, which I turn down, then I check the companies out and discover that they are known for offering low ball offers, I don't feel bad or like I am charging too much for my services. If I check the companies out and only see high marks, I don't have a complete picture of the company for one and I might begin to question my fees which are actually reasonable. As for me, I prefer to have a more complete picture of company.

Sure you have a right to complain! But that individual MUST be prepared to get the backlash that comes with taking on such low fees....
So I disagree with the above, in that if you accept ANY fee, whether it be a low ball or professional one, you do have a right to complain. Just be prepared to defend yourself!

Re: Those vague comments have 0 value to an experienced NR user.
@Ed: I don't rate unless I have actually worked for the company that I am rating - to me that is the only way to do it. Never thought about someone doing as you outlined. Conversely though, the ratings are also skewed by those who say "paid at 60 days, won't answer calls, etc." and then the rater gives them 3 or 4 stars. I'm always shaking my head, "What?"
I like the "Link" feature so much better - reading comments in the forum tells me so much more. I can then visualize a rating from pitter patter of the keyboard.

I haven't worked with your company but checked it out on SC.
Since most of the comments are 4 & 5 star, with those isolated 1 star comments (all from CA btw), most of us wouldn't be that concerned with it. It certainly wouldn't be reason for me to take work from that company. I'm glad to see a company come here to NR with this issue. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

One of my favs!
AND they always pay FAST! I did a signing a couple months ago, the borrower needed to change the time to a couple hours later than orginally asked for, making it a late evening. Lori took it upon herself to get more money for me! I didn't even need to ask, she just did it...

Many Years Ago.........
I've been around along time. Years ago there was the "No No List" that had been generated by some of the NSA'. On that list is a company with the name of "Door to Door" -- I don't know if you are the same Company or not (I know that your company name is "Door 2 Door Docs). This may be where the problem is coming from.... but I really can't say for certain.

Re: Many Years Ago.........
I was wondering that myself. If someone accidentally posts on the wrong company or changes their mind about a rating they've posted, is there some way to delete or change a rating? I thought I remember reading that there was, but I checked on SC and couldn't find it.
