Do what?
Last night, I received the following random text:
"Hello. I am sorry I'm texting you. I saw your notary ad on Craigslist. I don't need a notary but I'm looking for someone with a valid CA driver's license to come to the DMV. I am taking the behind the wheel test for the driver's license. I have my car...so I just need anybody to be there and do nothing...It's in the morning. Please let me know if you can. Or if you know somebody who does. Thank you!"
So, if she doesn't need a notary, why is she asking a notary to be there to "do nothing?"

Perhaps to get her and her car to the testing facility. If she doesn't have a license, she can not legally drive herself to the location, or drive away if she fails the test. Just guessing. Hmmm, be somewhere and do nothing. Seems like we're doing a lot of that these days.

They are looking for someone they can point to and say, they drove the car here so I can take the test. They don't want to have to tell the inspector they did.........

People hire Notaries because we are disinterested third parties and not the *average Joe off the street*. Our commission and perceived honesty and integrity gives the customer the piece of mind that we can be trusted.
I've been hired simply as a neutral third party where no notarizations took place. In those cases, I have charged by the hour.
If it were me, I'd accept the job from a female requester. For a male requester, my husband or son would go with me. I'd require CASH - collected up front. I have a receipt book so I would provide a receipt. I would meet them at the nearest Starbucks or McDonalds (or any fast food place) closest to the DMV, then drive to the DMV. My husband could drive the male customer to the DMV.
That's how I would handle this type of request (if I were to accept).

Perfect solution, Lisa, it's a part of owning the bona-
fides of being Notaries Public.
(No husband here, but Dad has, on the few occasions that merited , backed me up, with nary a quibble from clients. As a happy bonus, Dad's met old Vets, and experienced some rich experiences with fellow-veterans (He's a WWII Navy Veteran,) and those occasions ended up being treasures.) jmho.
