Fee Schedule

This is a continuation to the thread below that's about to disappear off the first page.

From nobhill: <<<So my point is, they're quite unwilling to offer more money for exceptionally large documents and time with fax backs. yet hey want more and more of my time with minimal pay. It's really outrageous.>>>

While still on the phone negotiating the fee, inform the scheduler that you will email or fax your fee schedule. Also state that if the assignment you discuss is different from the assignment you actually receive, the fee schedule will apply to the *actual job*. If you inform the scheduler up front, then they cannot surprise you with: extra large package, full package fax backs, excessive travel distance, reverse mortgage, or whatever else they fail to mention in the initial call.

You should ask lots of questions, however, you may get the "I'm not sure" response, or the "It's just a few pages" or "The borrower just lives down the street from you". The scheduler may see the fee schedule, realize they cannot bamboozle you, and decide to call another Notary. Could you lose the signing by submitting the fee schedule? Possibly, but what's worse?

A) Losing the signing initially because you gave a fee schedule......

OR...

B) Accepting the signing and finding out later it is far more than the scheduler revealed (huge package, long travel distance, entire package faxback, split signing, two loans, reverse mortgage, etc), thus making the signing more work and less profitable.....

I vote for "B" being worse than A.
