From the company that promotes Speedy:
I have been working for LSI for quite a few years now. Yesterday I received an e-mail from them saying I need to get a background check and they even stipulated two agencies that I could choose from. Last December I accepted work from them through Speedy Closings and I ended up having to file a complaint with LSI to get Speedy to pay me. Now I get this demand from LSI and I am wondering if this is retribution for taking action against their baby.

No...it's not retribution
I got it too - and I work directly for LSI...

I don't think they are singling you out. When I began working directly for LSI, after a couple of months they asked me for a BGC to complete my vendor profile. I got the free one from LexisNexis that has been discussed here recently. That was back in Nov 2009. I don't know why they haven't asked you for a BGC before, but like I said I worked for them for several months before they asked me for it.

Background Screenings
It's definitely not you. Word has been going around for a number of years that companies are going to start stipulating BGS's from anyone that closes for them.
I think it would be a given anyway!!! With the information that is entrusted to us, it should have been implemented many many years ago, IMHO. As far as that goes, I think it should be a federal law that anyone that deals with people's sensitive information be background screened every couple of years.
I've been acquiring and submitting my BGS to the companies I work for for quite a while now.
I've no doubt more and more companies are going to start making them a requirement.

Tell them you'll send in your background check right after they send you <their> Better Business Bureau check on Speedy Closings.
