Has anyone done the 3 hour renewal course in California?

Is it better to do the 6 hour course for renewal? Anyone here from LA that can recommend a good company to do the course? The company I usually go with doesn't have a class until much later and I want to get it done now.

Thank you for all your help! : )

I just completed the on line 3 hour course provided, free, from Notary Rotary. Very good course and you get your certificate immediately.

The course, once completed, will guide you to where you can take the state test in your area.

I highly recommend it.

I am now scheduled to take the State exam on the 14th of May.

Agree, John. I did the 6-hr course a couple of years ago and it is excellent. And it's free!!

Could you please fill me in regarding this "free" course. Thanks.

If this is the first time you've renewed since the new law went into effect, then you have to take the 6-hour. In other words, everyone needs to take it at least once. After that, you only need the 3-hour each time you renew.

I also did the free online 6-hour class here when I last renewed my commission three years ago. (It's free to Premier members only, I believe, but it sure helps make the paid membership worth it! BTW, I just renewed here again this week.) This one you can do on your own schedule, with no waiting period. And they were very quick with paperwork turnaround, as with everything else they do here.

A while back, I also sat in on a class at Notaryclasses dot com (because they asked me to be a back-up if they needed someone to fill-in for teaching) and with them, at least, the 3-hour class is the same as the 2nd half of the 6-hour. So the first half is very basic stuff for someone who is brand new and the 2nd half is into more nitty-gritty and a good review for the non-newbie. If you're into convenience, they also offer to do the photos for you at the same time and the state exam is held right after. As I've said before, I personally think people would retain more information and be more knowledgeable if there was a waiting period before the exam could be taken, (because they would have to go back and review the material) but that's up to each person to decide as things are now. A lot of people seem to prefer to get it all done at once.

Great! I love FREE! Thanks so much! I am taking the course and then taking the exam as a "walk in" so I don't have to wait 15 days after registration.
