Lunch...
I called borrower to confirm a loan signing for Saturday and he asked very politely, "May I prepare a lunch for you?"
Of course I just replied, "Oh thank you for the offer, but that is not necessary. "

I can't tell you how many nice lunches, including sandwiches, fish, rice and salad, I've eaten along the way. It's a nice touch to sometimes crazy day/schedule where I happened to miss lunch altogether because of my scheduling.

Some people can be so thoughtful ~ I usually try to decline also. Especially when they put out a whole spread on the very table we're supposed to sign on. I had one sweet, sweet lady lay out cookies, biscotti, banana bread and muffins along with the WORST coffee I've ever had (which I know because she practically fed it to me). She and her husband were a lovely couple. Boy did I feel like a heel asking her if we could set some stuff on the counter so we had room for the paperwork.
There was one appointment where I did score some truly exceptional chocolate chip cookies on a day when I'd not had time for breakfast or lunch. That was a good day

This winter I ventured out in a snowstorm for a Saturday a.m. closing. The borrowers were delighted that I actually showed up, but, hey, this is Minnesota, and if life stopped every time it snowed we'd never get anything done. Besides, it was only 4 miles away on a county road and I drive a pickup. Anyway, I got coffee, homemade warm coffee cake, and the same treats "to go" for my boyfriend, who had dropped me off to do the signing and gone over to the nearby hardware store!

I did a signing not long ago for a sweet, elderly couple where during the signing the lady asked me if I had children. I told her yes. At the end of the signing she asked me to wait a minute and she comes walking out of a back room with a large stack of used childrens books. She INSISTED that I take the books for my boys (who I had mentioned were avid readers).
I tried to tell her no thank you, I couldn't take them, but she insisted. So I ended up taking home a bunch of "new" books for my kiddos.
I never make contact with my borrowers post-signing, but I had my boys send her a very nice thank you note.
Thats the cool thing about this job. You meet some really nice people sometimes.
