Most unusual job ever....

So yesterday morning, a guy calls me and says he needs a mobile notary to follow him around, well... to what amounted to a good portion of the Mojave desert. He needed a bunch of letters of recommendation notarized because he was trying to get a contractor's license in Nevada and was on a time crunch. He said he and his wife had called TONS of notaries, and none of them answered their phones except for me. He said that he couldn't line anyone else up, so he would pay me whatever I wanted if I would just drive to all the locations at meet him there at each point.

It involved me driving several hours all over a good portion of the State, mostly through a whole lot of nothing and ghost towns, meeting contractors and state inspectors at several sites, several done in very high winds on the hood of a truck.

Fun stuff!

I want to sincerely thank all of those SoCal notaries who didn't answer their phone yesterday.

Oh DARNIT... you'll be driving right by my house. Well... about 15 mins away from the highway.

Too bad I'll be in Los Angeles on Friday. Going to be there all day... I'm usually there every Thursday or Friday.

Here's another goody.

A doctor from over at the coast called and asked if I could meet her in Corcoran, about 25-30 mins from me to notarize the signature of another doctor, who was working at the prison, and we were to meet at this certain address. Turns out it was a motel the doctor, who was working at the prison was staying for a stint of a month or so. Anyway, I quoted her $125, she said okay. No docs to print, no "faxbacks", no return delivery, no nothing, just notarize the signature of this doctor on 6 documents. On my way over, I receive a call from the doctor who called me and said that the time had been pushed back an hour, as the doctor was held up at the prison. No problem, I'll do some window shopping or something in Hanford but I will tack on a fee for that extra hour. Again, no problem. So I get to the motel, notarize the signature on 6 documents, 10-15 mins. tops, with writing everything in my journal. The doctor hands me $150 in cash and said, "I called about four notaries before you and they all said they were busy". This was the 12th of April. Can't imagine why anyone would be busy, but I said, "I've gotten that before when asked to travel to Corcoran for a loan signing". I doubt they were busy, they just didn't want to come to Corcoran." She said I was impressed with what you had to say about your business on your profile. Thanks for all your help. So, anyone who turned this job down, thank you.

Just thought I would say, I found your story very interesting since I live in Hanford. I read so much on here about the big city and other states, that it was nice hearing about my own town, and lol Corcoran! I dont mind driving there at all, dont usually turn down work to drive there. I have once though, "will you do a doc signing at 930pm on Tues night in Corcoran?" and they were paying like $75 - I laughed and said no!

Anyway, nice to see posts about my area. Sounds like your 'job' was a great experience. (I was not a call that refused btw )
