Notaries and Taxes
My tax preparer said she could not electronically file my taxes because the IRS requires notaries to file paper copies. Hasn't been the case in the past. Anyone else have that experience and if so, any idea why?

Yes, SReis did yesterday (or the day before)
Same issue - odd because I filed mine electronically...

Re: Yes, SReis did yesterday (or the day before)
Since it just happened, wondered if it had anything to do with the business that 60 Minutes reported on last week with the bogus signatures and the person notarizing false docs. The alert she rec'd specifically referenced notaries filing SE schedule. It had nothing to do with the software she is using.

I filed mine electronically yesterday - no issues.
I only filed the Fed electronically though. I paper filed the state because I didn't want to pay the $20 e-file fee.

I've been a professional tax lady for 20 years and this is a new one on me. I'm also a notary with notary income and I efile my own taxes every year. It may be time for you to find a new tax person.

I have never had a problem filing electronically, including this year. Different software programs have different idiosyncrasies. Some charge for electronic filing and some do not. For the last couple of years I have used Tax Act online and it has worked out well.

To my knowledge the IRS did have a reject problem (code 0190) on the 25th of May. That code related to SE portions of self employed individuals. I was sent a message that as of the 30th of May that problem was cleared up.
I have not had any problems submitting taxes electronically for any notary clients.

Thanks John. Did you May or March? Mine was sent last night and the alert rec'd this morning.

Seems to be an issue re marital status. For those who were success submitting electronically, were you married, filing jointly?

Yes...married filing jointly...
And we had retirement income, notary income, AND income from which no taxes were withheld.

Same here... not a single problem and I filed electronically back in February as well. Married, filing jointly... with all kinds of income sources including SSDI (my husband), notary income and a regular W2.

My info came from TurboTax & also an accountant
both said that they got notification just recently re: this being an issue. Maybe a new issue that just popped up. Honestly its not that big of a deal, just may have to wait an extra couple of weeks for the refund. BTW, I was also married filing jointly.
