Phones are quiet. Texting may be the reason.

Morning news show was about texting replacing phone calls. Since this biz runs on phone calls, how many of you get texts for assignments instead of a call. I wouldn't have a problem with that, and wonder if that's where we're headed. Any experience/input?

I have a problem with texting.
It doesn't give enough information to know what I'm accepting: travel distance, size of package, fax backs, etc.
It's like mass e-mail, one of the purpose id to get NSA into bidding for an assignment so the ss can take the lowest bid. Can we see wher the NSA will be paying the ss for an assignment.

Two companies contacted me last week via email about my TMing functionality and would I accept orders via text. The landscape is changing once again requiring flexibility and if we want more details about the assignment, we need to respond right away, or it will quickly disappear. I've been using text messaging for a year and a half now, and it works very well for me.

I think my business quadrupled when I began accepting orders via TMing a couple of years ago in August.

I agree with you Cheryl...MW, in answer to your question about receiving request for signing via texting, I average about 1 - 2 a week, not much.

Woops - don't know how that happened...

Let's try again. I haven't gotten any calls, emails, or texts this week EXCEPT for:

one call for a debt settlement *closing* (no thanks)

one email offering a closing from Dynamic Field Solutions (no thanks)

one call from a 60-day pay, lowball $$ company for an esign in a county that is one hour away (no thanks)

So long as offer is for a fair fee, pay as agreed and

treat me as a professional, I don't care if they contact me
by smoke signal.

Jobs by Text, etc.

Hmmmm . . Sometimes I wish the low-ballers could see my sign language reflecting their annoying signing request! ;-)

Minority Opinion, I guess

No. I need ALL the gory details to be able to quote an adequate fee; I do not want or need to pull these out of hiring entity by me having to do an additional phone call, text or e-mail. Further, send one out & a number of notaries are looking for a place to pull over to reply or trying to text while driving--and only 1 of those may get a job. Waste of a lot of people's time--except the hiring co's--but my time is very valuable (if only to me.)
From their POV, yeah--great idea: I type up one canudo and click on multiple names and send it out and sit back & wait for somebody to reply.... then I pick & choose which one gets the job. And we all know what that criteria is, right?

I don't text and won't accept text calls. My state is pursuing banning texting while driving. Don't know of anyone who can text faster than they can talk. Totally illogical. We're getting into the ridiculous. If I do without business because of it, so be it. Darned if I'm going to jump through those hoops.

I think texting has little, if anything, to do with it. I think phones are quiet because volume of loan apps being applied for - and especially getting approved - is down.

But I do think that there's a place for texting in our business. I find that while the initial assignment generally comes through via a phone call (which I like), more and more of the follow-up is done via text, and some clients appreciate that. Also, I do have a few (wish there were more) solid clients who will send me a text or email to check my availability if something comes up in my area. With these clients, we have pretty much agreed upon terms and don't have to get into a negotiation on every phone call, or we know that if something out of the ordinary comes up, we will both be reasonable and will be able to come to a fair agreement. It's usually just "can you do one by (date) in (city)?" I love those sent just to me to be able to fit into my schedule!

Problem is ........

.......if/when you need to contact the company while at the signing table, while waiting for docs to be sent to your email, or inquire about payment - guess what the primary mode of communication will be? Yep....texting!!! Good luck with that one.
