Renewal in PA

Hello! I originally was appointed through my employer. Now it is time to renew and I am wondering can I be reappointed as private individual without employer. I am no longer employed for that employer. In other words, will listing my home address only disqualify me in PA? Thanks!

Unless/and even if your employer is the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania I would think that you were personally commissioned by PA as a Notary public. Why not look on your Commission and see whose name is on it? And address? If you want to be a Commissioned Notary Public some place other than PA, like Texas for instance, I think you would have to apply there (and maybe be a resident?) If you don't actually live in PA why would you want to be Commissioned there again? I suggest you look into the laws applicable to where you actually reside.

Dimitri:

Perhaps the easiest way to apply for reappointment is through the Pennsylvania Association of Notaries. You must become a member to use their services. In the 23 years I have been a notary I find the membership to be of great value in so many ways. You can contact them at 800-944-8790.

Hi Dimitri,

I live in Ohio on the OH/PA border and I'm dual commissioned. Do you know anyone who lives in the state? I have relatives who live close to the border in PA, so I use their address and add "Unit G" for garage. Smile I plainly put in any online listings my mailing and document address is Ohio. As long as you are working in PA, which you are when you're performing closings as a mobile notary, you can have your license in PA.

When I switched from a Commissioner of Deeds (non resident) to a Notary in PA, I did not use an organization to do the paperwork. It took some time, but I made sure I got all the steps taken care of. It is easier to use PAN, but it costs considerably more. I used a discount service to renew this past January, and they got my bond, E&O and seal to me late by a WEEK! Never again, I'll do it myself.

And this isn't borderline fraud? If not out and out fraud?

Fraud perhaps

That is an individual who may profit from an organization that provides information and help to its members. It is not only a matter of cost but cost effectiveness. No organization can, however, teach integrity.

Did you really just put in writing that you are committing a FRAUD?????? You were a Non Resident Commissioner of Deeds, so why would you not have known you had to apply to be a non resident Notary in PA? I am so surprised that being dual commissioned you have so little knowledge of the law or the penalties for breaking the law as a Notary in PA. WOW, Does anyone remember the old one liner about trains instead of brains!
