Toner

Where is the best place to buy toner online? Thanks

I've always used LD Products. They stand behind their mdse. I think out of all the years I've ordered from them two cartridges were bad and they sent the replacements immediately.
They send a return label with the replacement so it's free of charge to return damaged product. Always keep at least two cartridges as a backup. There are several companies used and I'm sure you will have numerous responses.

Costco, business products part of their website, has Innovera generics, but I'm finding them to be a great product. They have toner for my Dell 1700 laser, cheaper than any other place I can find. Good luck.

Any new comments on LD Products?

I bought from them and am quite pleased. HOWEVER, about a month or so after I bought several cartridges from LD, a rash of complaints appeared on NR. Even if they 'make good' on stuff, the hassle is more than I want to deal with.

So, I'm asking fellow NRers.... was that a glitch with them or is it still a continuing problem?

Have used LD products for approx 5 years and never had a problem. Use toner for Samsung 2010 and Brothers MFC 8480dn Both lasers

Re: Any new comments on LD Products?

Several years ago, I bought from LD. I bought the ink, not the toner, for my inkjet printer, not my Laser printer. After awhile I had to return several because they leaked. Then I noticed that they seemed to run out of ink in a short time. I don't think they were filling them completely up. I stopped buying from them and started buying the originals at the store.

Re: Any new comments on LD Products?

I'm probably one of the ones who posted about problems in the past. I had two in a row (at least) that I had to return and it made me start to question them. They did replace them quickly, but like you said, more than I wanted to deal with. I have since ordered at least one more (maybe two - I don't remember) from them because I needed replacement in a hurry and didn't have time to do any research. Didn't have any problems.

However, on Monday afternoon, I went to place another order and decided to do some price shopping. I took a chance and tried Cartridgewarehouse via Amazon. They were very highly rated and the price was significantly less. Last LD Products purchase for same printer was a total of $58.16; same cartridge (new, compatible) this time was $33.80. I just got it today so I have no idea how it's going to work out, but for that price difference, I figured I'm ready to take a chance. I'll advise if I have any problems.

(This is for an HP 2430, supposedly good for 12,000 pages; I typically get somewhere around 8,500 pages, depending on the mix of letter/legal, FWIW.)

Re: Any new comments on LD Products?

I've stayed with LD, and was a bit apprehensive because of comments posted here.
So far I've had no problems with the products.

Re: Any new comments on LD Products?

I just order Two from LD. I always order Two in case you receive a bad one. Both had issues. First one printed so lightly, I am sure I would have received comments from title companies. Put the new back up in and it was worse. Only printed half the side of the page, took it out shook it again, no help, (Good thing I have Two other printers to print docs). I took cartridge out again shook real hard banging pretty aggressively with the palm of my hand. Just like magic, started working perfectly! I can only surmise, the toner was caked together, more than normal. Haven't tried to bang first one yet but will, otherwise it'll have to go back. Nothing worse than dealing with out of toner issues when in the middle of last minute docs. IMHO, an extra toner cartridge, even an extra printer is invaluable if serious about this business.

I am going to try the LD Products toner for my Dell. The price is better than Costco. I'm grateful for the blog and the posting. I'll save some money, if the product proves well. Thank you too, Irene.

Re: monoprice.com

Great prices, fast shipping (for Calif anyway). Good quality prints and page count is equal to OEM cartridges.

Agree with RickG and MariaIECA

I was a loyal LD customer for years. Then it seemed I started running through cartridges way before their time, and not only that, they started costing too much. About that time, there were alot of complaints about LD on NR, so I knew it wasn't just me. I tried Monoprice and so far so good. I'm sticking with them for now ....

Struggle with buying anything but OEM

I used to get refurb and compatible toners but did not have good luck with them. They all seemed to leak (what a mess), Then I had problems with one of my printers (in the first year) and was told that if I used anything other than OEM, it voided out the warranty.

They also said it could damage the printer (of course they would say that!!). My expense last year on toners was over $3,500. However, it's not so difficult for me to justify it because I get my paper for free. My husband works for a commercial type printing company and they compensate part of his pay decrease (because of the economy they said. Personally, I think they're just cheap and jumped on the bandwagon...tee hee) with supplying my paper. However, they also make my business cards, brochures and whatever else I need like that, so I can't really complain.

What are other peoples thoughts? Of course HP, Samsung and Brother are going to say you must and should use OEM. But do (or could) the refurb/compatible ones really potentially damage the printer? Is there any way to determine the authenticity of their compatibility? How do you keep from getting the toner all over?

Good point. The refurbs, at least for HPs, have chips.

If the chips aren't tested, they can zap your HP beyond repair. <grrr>

I've had good luck with LP Products, as they confirmed that they use tested chips (and my printer hasn't been fried.)

Hope that helps a little.

Monoprice website shut down (temporarily?) for investigation

Just found this: http://krebsonsecurity.com/2010/03/monoprice-com-shuttered-after-fraud-complaints/.

I'm trying to reach Cartridgewarehouse to make sure my new cartridge has a tested chip in it and I can't find a phone number for them anywhere. Can't believe I didn't check that out before, as I usually do. I sent an email through Amazon, so we'll see what happens. I was thinking of ordering another one from Monoprice in the interim (I've successfully ordered from them for a different printer), but then I found the info above, having to do with a possible breach in credit card security. So much for that idea...

Sheesh... I wish there was another great alternative with cheap prices and reliable service... Wink Hmmm - reminds me of other complaints about getting what ya pay for! Guess ours isn't the only industry that has those issues! Smile But I'm not forking out $120 to HP when I can get one that does the job for about 1/3 or 1/4 of the price. [The cartridge doesn't have to think, deal with people or make judgments like we do..]

Good news re: cartridgewarehouse.com

I sent an email message earlier to Cartridgewarehouse via Amazon's "contact us" tool and asked someone to call me. I just now actually got a call back, in a matter of a few hours! I'm pleasantly shocked. He assured me that they use only new chips in these cartridges, so I should have no problems with my printer. (I know, famous last words, but I'm going to find out. If I have any problems, you can be sure I'll let you all know...)
