We have heard from Mt. Olympus
Or, if not exactly Mt. Olympus, the closest thing to it in my universe. Harry has responded to the question about the origin of the name "Notary Rotary." My supposition was wrong, and I find that distressing since I am a Paul Harris Fellow, sort of the apex of the Rotary Club. You would think I would be able to make the connection.
On reflection, I guess Harry is fortunate I didn't name his site for him. Had it been me, we'd be posting in Notary Votary (for those of you who don't know, you're going to have to google the term).
Here's Harry's answer as to how we became Notaries Rotary:
Hmm... I can't imagine there's more than one answer, since it seems a bit self-evident. To me, "Rotary" seemed like a good metaphor to represent a collection of people (members), having a common interest, held together by a single apparatus (our company/web site), serving as a hub of sorts. The same notion is somewhat reflected in our logo, which consists of three people of different sizes (and different colors in the color version), in a forward-facing rotation, circumscribed by, of course, a circle. My mechanical, metaphorical interpretation would not be enough, however, and would not have been adopted absent the rhyme. So, I believe the short answer would be that the name was chosen because it was a metaphorical rhyme. That, and the fact that National Notary Association was already taken.
