What is it with PDF's/Adobe?
So, I've received a couple of pdf/adobe files from companies requesting me to fill them out. I've tried filling them out in Adobe, but the program will not allow me to do this. Is there some trick that I am not aware of?
Is it okay to fill the information out by pen or do they not like that?

Think I've only gotten a 'fillable' form once. Yes, fill it out in pen and get it back to them however~~

Some are sent to where you can fill them out, but the changes won't be saved, and some you have to print and write in with pen, then scan and email or fax them back. I always keep one saved that can be filled out and updated, although the changes won't be saved in that doc. You talkin about a W-9?

No; I'm talking about everything else. :/

Not sure what you're talking about. Are you speaking of the Lender and title docs and wanting to type in your State, County, date of signing, name, notary commission expiration, name of signers, etc.? If so, keep your pen full of ink, because they're not going to send you .pdfs of loan docs you can modify.

If you're talking about sign up packages, print them out, fill out and fax or scan and email back.

Matham, you need the Adobe Writer to fill in the forms.
The Adobe Reader is free, the Writer is not.

"Everything Else"...think about it! DON'T CHANGE THEIR DOCS
I have a program that will convert the .pdfs that come in to EVERYTHING ELSE, within which I "could" make changes to the docs that the lender and title company sent to me. I have NEVER used that, although I'd also love to do that, but it would be NOTARY SUICIDE to do so, IMO.
Yah, I'd like to go in and fill in all my info I can fill out in advance of the closing, but I could only do that by CONVERTING the lender and title docs into a form that they could be modified. What if "something" comes up changed at some time later in the mortgage meltdown, and YOU, as the NOTARY, had access to the docs, and changed them into "some" convertible form, rather than the form that you got them in, which you CAN'T change without using some proggy to be able to change them?
Do YOU, ANY OF YOU, want to expose yourself to that kind of open liability to document access of those docs to converting them into some changeable format, i.e. entering your notary info? DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!!! I've thought about it, and wished I could do it on the acknowledgments and jurats just so I could type that info in advance of the closing, and not have to write it in. IF I did so, that would open me up to liability of the possibility of changing the docs, and a possible collusion with the borrowers that "might" be alleged, or fraud on my part for changing some docs by the borrower. That just ain't a good idea, IMO. Don't convert those docs into a format that you can alter them, EVER! Get out your pen and write in the State, County, Closing date, means of ID, etc.,etc. and NEVER convert those docs into a format in which you can change them. Yah, I'd like to do it, but the fear factor is plenty to keep me from EVER doing that. Just in my lay opinion FWIW.

I am talking about the vendor packets. Not the actual loan documents.

Think he's(or she's) talking about applications that appear to be filled out on line but actually won't. Best practice is to print them out, carefully print the info and fax back.

Use Nitro Reader. It's free.

You can "type" on PDFs.
