Wow..just goes to show..sometimes even due diligence
isn't enough..
Got a general notary call a short time ago to do the second half of a paternity notarization tonight (father. I'd notarized the mother's signatures back in January). The mother is the one who called me and she told me that the day after the notarization in January, her daughter was admitted to rehab - she'd tested positive for drugs.
I swear this girl was as lucid as I am..okay, forget that... - but she was sober, clear, lucid, connected, eyes clear, speech clear, no shakes, no lack of motor control...etc etc - I knew there were issues of sobriety going in, together with a reluctance to sign her kids away, so I purposely sat with this girl in a room alone for 20 minutes talking, questioning, testing, etc etc - NEVER did she seem under the influence of anything at all - she seemed fine. She then signed, confirmed she'd reviewed it and understood it and affirmed it wsas her free act and deed
Thankfully she never denied signing nor did she contest what she signed but this info really rattled me. No matter how thorough and sure we think we are ...
Wow...
