professionals
I got a call to do a signing this week that I was unable to take. The signing service (one of the better ones) called me back yesterday to see if I could go have just one page signed. I guess the notary they hired missed a signature on the note and she is out of town.
I can't say if it was a cheap notary who did the job but missing a signature is unaccepatable and should never have happened. Professional signing agents with experience make certain that a package is returned complete and nothing is missed.
But, WE COST MORE. You get what you pay for.

Re: professionals....eveyone makes mistakes Julie
we're not perfect...
I had a signing this week - got a call that I didn't notarize the Survey Affidavit - asked them to send it to me and sure enough - borrower signed it but I didn't - nor did I stamp it!! I have no idea how that happened, and I checked the package TWICE at the table ....
I consider myself a professional, but I'm not perfect and neither is anyone else. I agree the signature on the note should not have been missed, but **it happens....own it, correct and move on..

I've never missed a signature...
...and I'm not ever going to do it again.
I have a rule: If my error delays funding, the hiring party doesn't pay for the closing, or for any corrctive measures. Keeps me alert.

When I miss a signature (after I've checked at the table) I get soooo angry, to me it's like turning off the the ignition on the freeway at 70 MPH. After I cool down and after I've made the correction, I try to figure out where I went wrong, I seldom get pass....."let's see I was talking about........". It is very important to stay focused in other words.

Maybe I'm overly cautious...double checking, triple checking, but the only signatures I've missed are on pages the title company forgets to send me.
I know people make mistakes...but wouldn't you agree it's more likely to happen if they hire someone who works for rock-bottom dollar? (aka newbies)

Two questions: Why didn't they have the original notary take the one page back for signature? and Did you charge for the service you performed?

Her OP provides the answer: other notary out of town. As for pay - I'm sure she was paid. I know I wouldn't have taken the job. Would you? lol
