service link
Has anyone else received a contract from Service Link? We have been requested to fill one out complete with a resume and references. We have worked for Service Link for a number of years and this is a surprise they are also requesting a background check.

I received the same request last week after working with them for over 8 years. I sent an email, still unanswered, to them & advised I wasn't aware they were offering me a job and would like to know my salary and benefits before providing NPPI. No answer yet... but have had them call for 5 closings since then.

Maybe it's time to send them a credit application
You are extending them credit, so it would not be out of line to ask for credit references and check their D&B rating.
BTW, I don't work for them.

Re: Maybe it's time to send them a credit application
I sent them all the information they asked for (and already had). Nothing secret. I guess it helps someone have a job. My husband will send in this information tomorror.
We do work for them and have for years.

Yes, they already have that info on me. Now they are getting tight on the $ amount only want to pay $125.00 even if it over 30 miles in another town. I think I might fill out a new one and up the price so then maybe they will only call when the can pay my set fee..

$125- you are lucky!
In my area they have some foolish NSA(s) doing closings for $70 (including edocs). They barely call anymore

Megan - we all have that now. I can't think of anyone here that hasn't heard that refrain at least once.
Sad, but true.

Re: $125- you are lucky!
I just tried signing up with them, submitted all the required info, only to find out that they could not meet my fees and currently have notaries in my area who are accepting $40 + $20 for edocs! Who can afford to run a business with such low fees? I never responded and regretted having used up almost 25 pages out of my efax account just to sign up.

Excellent point... so much about our business seems to be "bass ackwards" sometimes, doesn't it?

Bingo, Teresa! We are Creditors. Credit extenders, almost
by definiition as Remote Closers, aren't we?
Why on Earth would anyone extend credt to a complete stranger to complete a core-contituency obligation to comport with Contract Law? That's asking alot.
We are a trusting bunch, aren't we?

set up agreements
We are off the subject. We extend credit to all our clients not just service link. All our clients pay us after the fact What we are discussing is who received set up agreements from Service Link after many years of taking signing assignments from them. And why are they now sending them out. And how many of you are complying and filling them out and sending them back.
Personally I think it is a ploy to lower our fees.

Re: set up agreements
It's not off the subject to respond to a request for information from a client with your own request for information from them.
If they are updating their files it is reasonable for us to also update our files regarding their creditworthiness.
How many companies have gone from a good payment history (fair rate, paid within a fair amount of time) to lowballing and dragging out the payment processing well past 30 or even 60 days? We are probably not the only vendor they are stringing along.
When you notice this trend you then have the opportunity to tighten the credit limit you have extended to them just like credit card companies who periodically review a consumer's credit limits and lower them if warranted.
