I usually remove my shoes before I enter someones home. Is this what is usually done?

In the winter when there's snow on the ground, or when it is mud season, I always insist on removing my shoes or boots at the door. I wear some dark colored ankle socks since some homeowners may feel their floors might show some soil on white socks.

Since I always wear socks, I don't mind removing my shoes -
usually my clue is whether there are shoes parked at the front door.
I'm with you Pat, and normally ask anyway.

IME no, it's not usually done...
I remove my shoes if they're wet, but for the most part I don't have to - have never been asked to either. Common sense prevails when they open the door and you see white ceramic tile and white carpets...shoes OFF!!

I usually go by whether or not there are shoes at the door. If so, then I remove mine. If no shoes at the door, I don't offer but am happy to do so if asked. I have removed my shoes MANY times IME.

I love to take off my shoes!
I would do all of my signings barefoot if I had the chance. But, sadly, I too look for signs that the shoes are left at the front door before I offer to remove mine.

Re: I love to take off my shoes!
Ewww, I get repulsed having to take off my shoes and walk on someone's floors. I don't even walk barefoot at home.
However, I have asked and been asked to take my shoes off. I carry a pair of slippers in my bag.
There have been many times when I've asked and people said "no problem, don't worry about it, come on in." I know that different cultures take issue with people walking inside with shoes on.
