I don't believe the printer is an issue. I have two computers with windows 7 a desktop and notebook and use old printers. One is an old workhorse HP2420 the other is a Brother. Both printers are older then computers.

I don't have windows 7, unfortunately I have Vista but hope to get a MacBook Pro soon. I have a Brother 5370DW dual tray printer that works great and I highly recommend it. Brother also is helpful when you have questions, contrary to how I have experienced or I should say not experienced help from HP for their printers.

I’m running W-7 and have an old HP P 2015 X (dual tray) it works fine I had to download different drivers from HP. I don’t think HP makes the 2015 anymore, but they should have something comparable

Probably a universal driver?

I'm not sure, I think I'm using the 'older' PCL 5e driver.

I got a new computer with Windows 7, and a new HP 2055d with additional tray, last last year. They work well together and I'm completely happy with both. However, your question is probably answered best by Ilene and Les. Most printers will probably work, but you might have to go online to download the appropriate driver.

There can be compatability issues with some of the older
printers, but you can usually go to the website (HP, Brother, etc.) and update drivers & firmware.

Can't you use the troubleshooter and if needed run the printer in "compatability mode" and then choose the version of Windows you want to run the printer. Here's the link:

I have a brother HL-5370 DW. Works beautifully with Windows 7 if you set it up right.
