Alert! Just got a fraudulent 'invoice' from UPS--not!
Briefly... 'to view your invoice, click the link and enter your user ID & PW'. They had the account number correct and I've reported it to UPS as I don't have any open invoices.

I think I would be asking for a new account number. It is like losing your checkbook - who wants the same account number now?

That is a phishing scam, good that you reported it to UPS. I saw one the other day, knew immediately something was 'phishy' Said UPS in the subject, but USPS in the body of the email!

UPS is one of those phishing things, like Paypal, etc.
I always report it to them, as well as deleting.

If you float the mouse pointer over the link, Firefox and some other browsers will display the URL at the bottom left. That usually gives away the phishing scams. Either the URL will not be associated with the subject of the message, or it will be encoded in hard to read characters that won't tell you where you are going unless you understand special URL notation rules. That means "stay away" too. Common sense rules apply -- when in doubt, don't click. Delete. If someone really wants to get a hold you they'll find other ways.

I'd be interested in hearing the response from UPS, because if whoever sent it had your correct account number it's not a phishing scam. If the email was not from UPS, I would be more concerned about how these people got my account number - it could mean that your account has already been compromised, which is a heck of a lot more serious than a random email trying to entice you to give it up to them.

Recently, a company that specializes in handling email for large corporations got hacked, and hundreds of thousands of records, including possible account numbers (not credit card or banks, but the #'s like UPS account #'s) were stolen. This happened to some very large retail and other customers. These records are now being used for phishing attacks.
The rule is very simple, folks. If it doesn't feel right, delete it. If the company really wants to get a hold of you they will find a way. If it's a scam it usually doesn't repeat.

If so, I get these every week even though I never actually charge to my account.

That's the one! Are you telling me I'm going to start
getting these every week? Even tho' I, too, never use the account to do anything but order supplies? Not really that worried as I no longer even have the credit card associated with the account.
