Convenient Settlement Service
Today when I arrived after being on the road all day I got two email messages. Both did not have my name, just "Notary Signing/Closing Agent;" as the salutation. Signing was to be within 4 hours 40 minutes of email time, offering $75, on the last day before hurricane Irene is due to hit.
Yeah. Right.

I got a call from N3 Notary Service out of Portland 9pm tonight with an offer of $65. Month end, the night before one of the biggest hurricanes to hit the north east in years. Long story short they agreed to my fee and then I came to NotRot and found out that they don't treat notaries so well. Hence the $65 original offer. I don't think these signing services have any idea how high the cost of living is in New York.

My observation is that anyone offering $65 is not to be taken seriously. Why would you even bother to negotiate with such scum? Why would you do anything to help keep them in business? You'll be chasing your $$ for months. They have a lower rating in SC than SOX! When I get those insulting calls, I just say thank you but no.
Also, these people don't care what the cost of living is anywhere in the country. They don't care about EOM or Irene. They want a cheap notary so they can make as much money as possible for themselves while we do all the work.

I agree with GG. Of course they agreed to your fee...
you'll be lucky to be paid and if so, it'll be like pulling teeth. Hope you don't rely on a consistent payment plan.
I also absolutely concur about working for these pathetic companies. The notaries that work for them are why they are thriving and are to blame for the disintegration of our industry, IMO.
Not beating you up, just sayin...
So as to keep yourself in business, you may want to reconsider lowering yourself (third person) to their level. Make them, and companies like them (Notary Direct, Speedy Closings, Nations Direct, SOX, etc. etc...IMO) go out of business by not working for them.
Don't do their work and they won't stay in business. It's as simple as that. They need us more than we need them!!!

Unfortunately, for every experienced NSA who exercises wise judgment by rejecting work from unscrupulous SS/TC, 2+ newbies in line, ready to accept such low-ball offers or said newbies will believe false claims of generous & fast pay from said scummy scammers. JMHO
