Debt settlement enrollment package offered opinions pls

sounded to much like I would or could be seen as a member of the debt settlement company offering the services for a fee.
Does anyone take these assignments?

I have decided not to do debt settlement signings. For one, the presentations that they want us to make sounds too much like a sales pitch to me. Second, for ethical reasons. People who enter into debt settlements are still sued for past due bills, referred to collections and almost always wind up filing bankruptcy anyways.

In short, I'm not sure what the hired attorney is actually doing to earn his pricey fee.

I do for one company. They seem to have thier act together and actually offer assistance. Although I have never had the opportunity to talk with the people afterwards so I can't answer that part. But I do not go to these appointments misleading anyone that I work for the company. I'm just a messenger not an educator. I don't read a script or offer any advice because I know nothing about thier debts or the solutions being offered and I tell them that and all have always said they already knew that.

In my area, there are groups that offer counseling at no charge.

I did two of them last week, 20 minutes in and out, easy money. I remind them that i'm not part of the debt settlement company, that i'm just there to witness the signing of the contract. Nothing to notarize.

I believe it's illegal in CA for companies to charge any up-front fee for these types of services (whether or not we collect it.)

Like Glenn said, there are non-profit organizations that provide free debt counseling services. It just doesn't feel right to me for these companies to prey on people who are already having challenges paying their bills. I'm not sure what services they claim to offer or what, if anything, they can actually do for people, but I do know that they've just added another creditor to their list when a borrower signs up for these services. I just prefer to not have anything to do with them.

Thanks for responses..two notarized docs were to

be included. LPOA and I think second was a contract for services.

Carrie,

Would you please provide me with the phone number or website of the companies that you conduct debt settlement signings for, so that I, too, may sign up with them? Thanks! Sean M Henigan

I don't take those. IMO they're not much different than the

loan mod app scams.
