Geographically challenged scheduler

Me. Hi, Becky. I’m here on Bandera Road, and there is no 12,000 block.

Borrower. Huh?

Me. I’m on Bandera Road, and it’s only a four-block street, and it only goes up into the 4,000s.

Borrower. Where are you?

Me. I’m on Bandera Road, just off of Springdale and MLK.

Borrower. Huh?

Me. Can you tell me how to get to you?

Borrower. I’m on Bandera Road just outside Loop 1604.

Me: Okay, just outside…Wait a minute. Did you say Loop 1604?

Borrower. Yeah.

Me. Loop 1604 in San Antonio?

Borrower. Yeah.

Long pregnant pause. Pregnant pause gives birth to twins.

Me. I’m in Austin.

Twins’ mother emits, at full volume, a lexicography of salty language that would do any Bowery sailor proud.

The closing was rescheduled. The title company would do well not to let the scheduler for this closing handle any loans with a Main Street address. Considering how many cities share that name, no telling where the closing would end up.

Love it! I had something similar but I caught it early.

I got a call Tuesday at around 4PM for a closing at 6PM, problem was I didn't recognise the towns name. After a few key strokes I found out why, the location was only 370 miles away.

I told the scheduler I love to take it but my plane was in for repair. I'm still not sure he "got it."

Maybe I should have quoted him a price that included chartering a flight, I bet he'd have to get that approved!

I wonder just how clueless some people are, but then I don't want to know the answer.

Driving Around Aimlessly

Bad information from title companies and schedulers is very common. I refuse to waste my time & money driving around aimlessly, even losing potentially other signings. I always find where I am going before I leave the office. If I can't find it, I call the borrower's and or the hiring party. I have had schedulers call asking me if I could do one , them not even knowing it was in another state. Sometimes, wait.......... most times I think they are rushing so much, they do not take time to check much of anything.

I'm with Larry/IL

I know they don't check and also know they got my name from NR because I'm in an AR/MO border county and get a lot of calls for places in MO because that's just the way the NR search function works. I've also gotten calls that would require a 6 or 8 hour round trip...but it is in AR! I never leave home without mapping it first.

***I always find where I am going before I leave the office.***

Wow! What a novel idea, Larry. You mean I could go to my computer, pull a google or Mapquest map, and then drive to the specified location? Nine years I've been doing this, and NOW you come up with that suggestion.

Of course I knew where I was going before I left the office. Google gave me a map with a location. But I'll keep your recommendation in mind.

Geez.

Re: Driving Around Aimlessly

I had the same thing happen to me several years ago. Since then, I always confirm the address with the BO, including city and state. They may think I'm nuts when I say the city and state, but I don't care. I also ask if they're married or single, tell them to make a copy of two IDs, and ask for directions. Even if I'm looking at the map while I'm talking to them, I want to be sure MapQuest isn't sending me on a wild goose chase. It's been known to happen, and I don't want to assume it's correct.

I like it when the miss-pronounce the name and after confirming with borrower and address you wind up in Montara instead of Monterrey!

I really like when they say I see you go into Chicago. I'll ask where in Chicago and they'll just give me a zip code. I always have to explain to them it takes an hour and a half to drive from one side of the metropolitan area to the other and that during rush hour that travel time could go up to 3 hours easily. They'll ask for a Friday at 5pm, I'm like ok, thats Two hours travel this needs to me my fee and they say what, it only shows 7 miles from you.

Yea, similar situation here in the bay area. Once a SS called me to go from Oakland to Orinda about 6 miles. I told him it would take me two hours because it was commute time and I had to go thru the Eastbay Hills tunnel (those of you who live in the area know what I'm talking about). He started ranting a raving about it was only 6 miles and how I was a slacker (whatever that means) and was trying to get out of doing the signing. My question to him was, "What makes you think I am at home in the first place?" I told him he owes me an apology,...which he refused. That's how stupid he was.

I have spots where 4-6 miles will take me an hour or more. I hate appts. between 4pm-6:30pm. These schedulers work out of their homes - walk from their bedroom to home office is what - 30 seconds. The rest of us should have the same? LOL

Now there’s an idea, call the borrower and say here’s my address see you here at 5 PM, please bring the wife, some photo ID’s and please leave the dogs, cats, and kids home.

Had one call me and the property address said Texas and the scheduling address was in Ca. No problem I have done plenty and it was close. called the borrower and they said the time would not work, so I said I would call and see if we could get it changed. I asked them to verify the address we were signing at to save time, they said the Texas address and the property was in Ca. oops some one reversed on confirmation. I called title they were really embarrassed and thanked me for not letting everyone know about the mistake. Sometimes it helps to just help someone out when they make a mistake. If nothing else I feel good about it.

That's true

I had a call to do one 400 miles south of me, I just found a notary in that area and gave them the number.
