Has anyone done automotive signings?

It can't be that hard to do. I've purchased several cars over my lifetime and it doesn't seem that there is that much to it.

A place called Maverick offers an online course and certification for $29

I was thinking about expanding my horizons being that business is so slow.

Comments? No wise remarks, Hugh

I work for them on a regular basis. I never paid to join. You don't need an online course. It's very straight forward and easy as pie! They pay as promised.

Sounds like a waste of money to me. I'm not even sure what an "automotive signing" is. There are various documents related to transfer of title that need to get notarized, but I've always thought of that as just general notary work. There are all kinds of other scenarios, I suppose, where a notary may be asked to complete additional paperwork (like for someone taking out a loan against their car), but there isn't really that much to it that it would require a course, imo, let alone a certification.

My guess is that they're just trying to find another way of putting their hand into your pocket.

I have worked for Maverick since 2007. (I did pay back in 2007 for the $29 "training course". I usually do 1-5 a month for them. There is only one doc to notarize. Very easy, in and out in 15 minutes. They pay every 30 days from date of service/invoice. One of my favorites.

Maverick was great to work with and paid in under 30 days. It's been awhile since I've worked with them. I've done several signings for them in the past. Very easy - they overnight you the auto loan paperwork and you meet with the client and get everything signed, which is all highlighted and marked for signatures. It's the case of "buyer in one location, new or preowned vehicle in another location", usually out of state.

The last signing I did, the mother was cosigning for the daughter. Mother in California, daughter in Las Vegas and new car in Las Vegas. There's one form to notarize - an Affidavit of Identity form and get a photocopy of client's ID. Other than that, you're just collecting signatures. A return envelope included with overnight package. Nothing to print - just show up and notarize one form and collect other signatures, and return paperwork shipper envelope provided which is addressed to the auto dealer. That's it. Takes about 20 minutes. If anyone has any recent experience with Maverick and they still pay in under 30 days, I'd say take all you can get.

When I was a very new newbie, I paid the $29 because I didn't know any better. It was almost a year before they called with an assignment but when they called, they paid well and net 30 or less.

Now hear this

If I was going to design a business to work for, it would be Maverick Signings. If I was going to get married -- again -- or adopt a daughter -- again -- it would be either Sylvia or Kelly. They could take their choice as to which one. (Previous potential mates or adoptees have usually opted for a ticket out of town instead. Except for the mates; w-a-a-a-y too many have said "Yes," invariably followed eventually by "What the hell was I thinking?")

I normally do a few each month for Maverick, and have for years.

Usually, I try to persuade the purchaser, if it is a Beamer or Mercedes, that part of the dealer service is having the signing agent test the car over the weekend to make sure everything is in order. Either I'm getting an unusually high percentage of really smart purchasers, or my persuasion skills need work.

I've done quite a few signings for them - and they're very good. The ones I've done.... docs are always overnighted from a dealership. There's usually only one document that needs to be notarized, though sometimes it's more, depending on the dealer. They are always fast and easy and pay quite well for the work involved. I take whatever I can from them. It's not very regular work... but when they call, I answer.

The thing about them that really impressed me was that the Identity affidavit they use now is the direct result of my input to them about incorrect CA wording. They actually listened to me when I let them know the form they were using wasn't appropriate for CA notaries. I believe it was Sylvia who revamped the form. They actually listen.

I've also found them to be very responsive and accommodating when problems arise.

Let me also add that these signings, from my experience, usually fall under one of two categories:

- These people are buying a vehicle from a dealership from out of state and having it shipped to them.

- The person signing the paperwork is a co-signer/buyer for a family member. Often it's a parent co-signing a loan for a child out of state.

Re: Recommend

I have done Maverick closings for several years, perhaps 1 every two or three months. I take all the work that they offer. They pay as promised, signings are not complicated and they leave it up to you to finalize appointment details. They are also available if any questions arise.

I did not take their course and I did not pay to sign-up but they must have changed procedures since I started working with them.

I have no reservations about recommending Maverick to my fellow notaries.

Re: Recommend

What is the range of fees they pay? Are these similar to the MortgageDocs auto closings?

Re: Recommend

in my area they pay $70.00 (and that's ONLY if I don't have to travel very far - in fact, all but one that I have done for them, I went in my golf cart) If you have to travel further they will compensate you - but you have to tell them how far it is you have to travel. They are GREAT. Wish more people here in The Villages would either buy a new car or co-sign for their kids/grandkids.
