Hurricane Irene--everyone be safe.

It looks like a downgrade to Cat. 1 here, which will about equal a Nor'easter.
I still have pkgs. that I have to try to get shipped this am, if services are running.
What a crazy EOM! I had a full schedule & was still getting calls after 7 pm, which I turned away, of course.

Marilynn, I was at my local shipping store moments after they opened this AM. I asked if they were getting their UPS and FedEx pickups today - they said yes as far as they know. They did say that the drivers may come early - that's why I got my packages there ASAP after they opened. Even if they are picked up today, I bet there will be a lot of packages delayed by the weather.

My local store told me they'd be closed today. We're

a bit closer to the storm than you are, I think. I called Fedex & they told me there was no guarantees of pickups today (pretty obvious). Then the tornado warnings hit. I realized that the loans fund on Wed., and if I ship on Monday it will still to ok. I've never had a situation like this before, and will advise my clients of the shipping delay. It's not worth the risk. :-)

Re: My local store told me they'd be closed today. We're

Yes my area is on the outer bands of the storm and we've only had a little rain so far. FedEx and UPS certainly could have made their pickups here this AM by 12 Noon without issue.

I can't get anyone to answer phones at Fedex Office

locations or UPS stores. I can normally get a Fedex out up to 4 pm on a Sat. This is definitely not "business as usual".

The Fedex stores in my central NJ area were both closed before 11 am. It didn't look like they had opened at all, and its barely drizzling here!

Yep. The rain slowed down & I risked running over to the

Fedex depot that is here. Closed up, boarded up & no trucks in the parking lot at all. Every co. has an emergency plan--good for them.
Again, loans will fund on Wed., and things should be pretty normal by Mon. here.

If you can't ship today you might want to consider faxing, I know I would.
Charge cells, laptops and anything else. We aren't supposed to get much but
They think we might lose power. I turned my frig on the coldest setting, don't want
To be in a hot house with warm beer tomorrow!

It's heading right at us - latest track shows the eye making landfall here about 30 miles west of me. With any luck, the storm will degrade a bit more before it gets to us. The last real hurricane we had here was Gloria in 1988 - that was a category 2, and the eye passed right over my town. Lot of damage from that one; this one sounds like it will be almost a Nor'easter, and we seem to get a couple of those every year.

Although I'm on an island, I'm far enough away from the shore that flooding and storm surge are not issues. Wind and rain will be the big deal, but there aren't many tall trees in the immediate area and the electrical lines into my community are buried, so maybe we'll get lucky. Took all the precautions I could, now it's time to just hunker down and ride it out...
