I'm done....for now

I accepted and started a full-time position at a sole-practitioner law firm on Thursday. One attorney, one sec'y/legal assistant (me) - last thing I wanted to do was get a J-O-B, and full-time no less in my close-to retirement years, but my husband and I have these silly habits - we like to eat on a regular basis and sleep peacefully at night knowing our bills are paid.

Phone has been silent for months now and this business is just too fickle for me. I've had feelers out and have interviewed at several jobs, including the CNA positions but nothing came of it - this one hit out of the blue - faxed resume at 9am, phone call at 9:30am, face-to-face at 2pm, hired! - start the next day!!

I say done for now because I'm keeping my commission and profiles (revised, naturally) just in case it doesn't work out. If the last two days are any indication, I think we're gonna be okay. I really enjoyed working this business, but the unpredictability, especially in my area, is just too much. The increase in business that everyone else is posting about? I'm not seeing any of it. I've not done one closing in August yet and only did 2 or 3 in all of July. Got two calls in the last couple days (of course!!) and those were the first for the month -

I'll still follow the forums as I enjoy them - just won't be around as much as I was - so keep things posted so I can keep up with the G, the B and the U!

Good luck to you all - may you all prosper...Smile

Congrats on the job, Linda.

I'm so glad you found f/t employment in this economy. It is nice to get a steady check every two weeks. I closed the doors to my business twelve months ago. The notary work had slowed down; and the process service was picking up. But still it just wasn't enough to cover all of my living expenses. I also accepted a full-time job and it was definitely the right thing to do financially. I still miss the notary/loan signing work though. Don't think I'll ever get it totally out of my system. Good luck to you.

Linda--hoping you'll still chime in with your wisdom and insight. I understand the dilemma. I too, am addicted to eating and paying bills....

Wow Linda, this is bittersweet. I so enjoy reading your comments and the private notes we've exchanged. I do understand eating and paying bills. I am also trying to reach out to other endeavors. I wish you the best always and know you will be an asset to any company. Glad you are keeping your fingers on the pulse here though. Congratulations Linda, may you always prosper.

Congrats & good luck, Linda. :-) We'll miss you, of course

but know that you'll continue to share your wisdom here. A steady paycheck is a nice thing these days--you know you can count on it. I really think you'll enjoy the work more than CNA work, but that's just my opinion.
Besides, like another legal assistant who posts here, we're sure you'll have plenty of time to spend on the forums when things are slow at work. LOL
Thanks again for being the coordinator for cards for Ann. :-)

Congrats on the new job. I, as many of us, completely understand. I had told my hubby that I was going to look for something part time to supplement too. I did fall into something this week that I'm hoping fills that gap and looking very forward to it. Post when you can here and fb.

You are such a detail person and a great communicator. Can't say I blame you. I think it will be a decade before Florida's real estate market returns. Wishing you all the best, and by the way, thank you for everything you did, over and above, in the PAW wells wishes effort.

God speed, we'll miss you!

LOL...Like you won't be here with us

on NotRot. A good many of us will be here until Harry turns the lights out...or the nursing homes make us get off of our computers and out there for fresh air and exercise (aka play bingo).

Lots of happy and well wishes coming your way. Congrats, Linda.

You should be proud of yourself, Linda, to get that job so quickly in this horrible job market. Your resume and interview must have been very impressive. Congratulations!

Thank you all so much for your well-wishes..

They're very much appreciated!!

I won't be leaving NR - very hard to cut ties with a community like this. As Brenda said, I suspect the nursing home is going to yanking my 'puter plug before I give it up voluntarily!! .. LOL

Again...thank you..Smile
