Interesting general notary job tonight

I got a call from a guy that sold 3 million baseball cards and another guy is coming in from out-of-state tonight to load all the boxes on a truck. My client expects that it will take about 5 hours for 5 men to load and he will need me about midnight. We have made plans that he will call me when they are finished and we will meet at a large grocery store that is open 24 hours and has a well-lit parking lot.

Yeah! Great! In Colorado I could count the cards along with the buyer and notarize his affidavit/stipulation that he did indeed receive 5000 cards. And I could charge $5.00 for this service. GNW? Not me! Not here! JMO

Sounds like fun to me!

I think I'd go early just to hang around and be a pest. Smile

If he's making a statement in an affidavit...

why would you have to count cards with him? You're just giving the oath and notarizing the signature on HIS statement about the quantity.

No travel fees in CO?

She doesn't - she just has to meet with him when they

finish loading up all the boxes and the exchange is complete. I didn't read where she's counting cards with him -

Lynn..what does "time" have to do with it?

It's either done or not done. 5 million or not. Aren't you just notarizing an affidavit? The signature? He could use your services during normal business hours, be careful!

Interesting, yes. Dangerous, maybe. I wouldn't be

meeting someone at that hr. to notarize a truck being loaded with whatever, but that's me.

I don't see a problem at all

Lynn says she's meeting at a large grocery store that's open 24 hours....sounds like they'll be inside. Large grocery stores usually have a cafe or juice bar - with tables and chairs to sit at.

In addition to the notarizations, midnight appointment warrants a $100 graveyard service fee. Call an after hours plumber or locksmith and see if they'll charge the same service fee at midnight as they would at 12 noon.... they won't and neither would I.

If it were me, I'd require cash upfront and collect it before I notarized. This requirement would have been made clear to the customer during the initial phone call.

Re: I don't see a problem at all

I agree - even if it were to be in the parking lot, stores are usually well lighted and her customer is going to be there and their customer is probably going to be there - and 5 other guys who loaded, plus store traffic and store cameras and...and...and....

I'm sure Lynn knows her area also and understands her comfort level. Who knows - maybe she has a big, bad dog and/or weapons of her own.

The buyer arrived in town early and they finished packing the 26' truck by 9:30 PM and we met at 10:00 at Harris Teeter. The Seller parked his 1988 Chevrolet pickup right in front of the store in the no parking lane and he and the buyer signed and I notarized on the hood. My husband went with me, mostly to have a chance to talk to the seller. The guy was interesting and still has a collection of another 3 million cards.

Fun job tonight!
