Is it mandatory that a notary use a ink stamp in Maryland?
I just had a document come back to me with only an impression. When I went to "The Library" on this site I found that a ink stamp is required. The notary (no name) called me this morning and said she has been doing notarizations for five years and has only used the impression. I suspect that this is wrong, but would like to here from my fellow notaries.

According to the Maryland notary handbook, a notary can either use an embosser or a rubber stamp which makes an inked impression on the paper.
So the notary is doing what she is allowed to do per her handbook.

Thank you Sylvia. Just wanted to make sure document is recordable. Either or is acceptable in MD.

This was a good question, but it's not your responsibility to know if a document is recordable or not.
