Is it really necessary?

I handled a signing yesterday for a new company (new to me) that met my fee. The email confirmation was good and the terms were mutually agreeable. After I finished the signing, I returned to my car to do the completion report on my Blackberry and saw that I had 2 missed calls. The scheduler was calling me to 'see how everything was going and if I had made it there on time'. I told her that that was not necessary, I'm a veteran closing agent and would have called her had there been any problems. She said she also tried calling the borrowers and they didnt answer the phone either...R-E-A-L-L-Y???

Lesson learned: I will now add a line to all of my order confirmations that I will not take calls while working with a client. It seems like a no-brainer but sadly, I guess I have to spell it out...gee whiz......

Some unfortunately will. I put my phone on vibrate when I'm in a signing because I think it's rude and of course someone else could be calling to hire me or it could be one of my family members. Once completed I will call or text them the signing was completed and when I drop the package off I put their email addresses in the notification boxes the shippers provides on-line. Glad to see somebody else finds that annoying.

One company I use to work for started calling me to tell me they sent me the Docs (that's okay), then did I print the Docs? (that's not okay) followed with did the signing go O.K. and have I dropped the packages off.

If you want real handholding, take an assignment from FASS. Most of these hand holding calls seem to come from outside the US and the caller does not have any idea what you are doing. They just want ot get "thier" call complete.
The last one I did for them, over a year ago, and yes they meet my fee, I was called 3 times while at the signing table. The caller could not understand the signing was going long as the borrower was having trouble getting answers to problems with the numbers. We were talking to the LO and escrow officer. The signing took 2 hours. The question, when will it be complete? As if I knew.

I think these phone calls take place because at some point these companies have hired the scab notaries that we all talk about here. Then when they get a good notary they don't know how to act.

I have to respectfully disagree. I ALWAYS answer my phone

in a signing, EXCEPT family. They know I won't answer it and they've been instructed to text "emergency" if they absolutely have to talk to me. I'll excuse myself then, which has only happened a couple times in years.

I don't work if I don't answer my phone. Plain and simple.

I also don't work for companies that hand hold like that. Can't stand it and it irritates the you know what out of me. Quit that long ago.

I never turn my phone off; it's stays on vibrate.....

My family will also text EMERGENCY if warranted. And if a company calls and leaves a message, I return the call as soon as I'm able to. If they have moved on to the next name on the list then oh well, it simply wasnt meant for me.

Re: I have to respectfully disagree. I ALWAYS answer my phone

I also always answer my phone and tell my family to text me. Some companies will leave a message, but then go on and call another notary. I always apologized to the borrower and explain that if I don't answer, I will lose business. I have never had anyone seem to not understand. I would lose a lot of business if I didn't answer my phone during closings.

That happened to me today

Co. called (I was at work) - they left a message to call back about a signing at 5 - I returned the call within about 10-15 minutes to let them know I couldn't do it and they already had someone -

I got sick and tired of the idiocy and garbled English from First American Signature Services, and the continual barrage of pestering phone calls. I don't need the grief, and I told them to take me off of their notary call list if they can't seem to stop these calls. They became extremely snotty and ended up hanging up on me. Happily though, they haven't called since. Let the lumberheads take their signings.
