Had a title co. call me this a.m. and wanted me to do a signing in next county...I was available so said yes...she says 'great' and says I'll send it over...and hangs up! I've done work for this co. before so I figure I'll get what I charged before. Well, it's for $25.00 less and 4 miles over my base rate. So, I call and tell her that I would need more $$..."Why, you cover that county!" Yes, but my base rate is 20 miles. I'll do it for $25.00 more. " Oh, no, I have a company that will do it for $5.00 more...o.k. let them...Are title companies becoming SS companies?

This relates to the "we have you in our system at $XX" comments. Too often they assume that what they paid for the last closing I did only 10 miles away should cover the cost to go 30. I either stop them mid-sentence as they are telling me the confirmation is on it's way, or call them back to be sure they have the appropriate fee for this assignment. If it's not, it goes back.
